Think SNOW for B.C.

I know there are many in the D.C. area, and other parts of the east coast who have had it up to here with snow, but here in the Pacific Northwest and the Pacific Southwest of Canada, we are experiencing the lovely effects of what the weather 'casters call El Nino. El Nino is a phenomenon characterized by unusual warming of the Pacific equatorial waters. This warming influences the weather on the West coast of North America - including more rain in Southern California (thus the mudslides), more warm rain in my area (thus the need for umbrellas or hoods but so far no flooding), and less snow in the mountains (thus more headaches for the Olympics Committee). There have been plans made in British Columbia to line some ski slopes with hay bales then top them off with trucked in snow. Who could have predicted this when the bid was put in? For the last few years we have been having record snow levels in the mountains. It would have been perfect for the Olympic skiing and sledding events. This year - not so much. Olympics start in four days. We'll just have to watch and see how it unfolds. I like the snowboarding and ice skating, myself.

Do any of you in other parts of the country have the problem of 'bikini baristas', or is this our unique regional issue? Last Summer, (or the one before that), this guy opened a drive through espresso stand operated by servers wearing bikinis. Oh, the owner had the stands specially made or modified with lowered service windows so customers could see just who was making their grande 2% half-caff caramel macchiato with extra whipped cream and a straw. These stands have caused such a furor with the Mommy set, and the religious conservative set, that they have been banned in some areas. Personally I think they are ridiculous, and perhaps a little dangerous. Apparently some non-customers have been spotted parking nearby and masturbating while they watch. BUT, is banning them a violation of our freedom? Bikinis are okay on the beach, and in public pools - why not in a coffee stand? Does context matter? What about this: If you don't like it just avoid it? What's your take?

That's it for today, m'dears. Got to keep 'em shorter if I'm going to be posting every day. Remember, I don't type so fast.

Good Night, TTYL, and Be Well,

  1. Webster, I don't get the whole bikini barista thing, but I guess I'm not their target audience. I just felt kind of sorry for the poor woman I saw teetering across a gravel parking lot in her 5-inch heels on a chilly, drippy day to grab a couple gallons of milk out of the cooler.

  2. Hi Webster,
Wow ... Bikini Baristas. That's a new one. We don't have that around here. And you would think we would, given that we're right by the beach!
    Best,
    Marty

  3. Ugh err . ...

On the board walk, sandy beach, the message is not the same really - oh maybe I am wrong.

  4. I for one, when getting coffee, don't really see too well. Bikini's in the morning in a coffee stand setting, might scare an old lady like me. On a beach, yes I'd expect it ... in the Winter nope. But, I probably wouldn't go back to that particular coffee stand ...

Just my opinion of course ... everyone is free to have a buiness ... I don't need to be reminded of what I've lost ... youth ... while getting my coffee.

If ya know what I mean ...
