Happy February
I just want to get started with my NaBloPoMo for February, 2010. I couldn't manage to do it last month, and February is shorter, so it seems so much easier. I know you know what I mean.
So, first an update of my friend who got hit by a car on Jan 12. After spending, I think, two weeks in Harborview in Seattle, she has been transferred to a rehabilitation center in Lynnwood which is close to one of her sisters. I had the opportunity to visit her last Friday by getting a ride with her brother who also lives in Tacoma, not far from me. It was great to see her. She was sitting up in a wheelchair and having lunch. Even though she has a nine inch scar that runs from ear to ear and across the top of her brow, it was not the first thing that I noticed. The first thing I noticed was her smile, and that made my heart glad.
She had had a busy morning of PT with her legs, and was feeling it. There are no casts, just bandages, so the severity of her injuries are not immediately apparent. Still, she cannot put ANY weight on either leg for many weeks. In the afternoon, she had an appointment with her OT, who is working on her right shoulder to help ease the soft tissue tension caused by the right clavicle fracture. And, guess what? Her OT is the little sister of my best friend from college! Talk about a small world; I love it when things like that happen. Synchronicity, as Karl Jung would put it.
We didn't stay long, but I called her again on Saturday night, and she was feeling tired - but a good tired. She has a borrowed I-pod which is filled with an eclectic menu of music from all genres. It is keeping her entertained.
Her boyfriend still hasn't managed to make it to see her. I misunderstood when I said he'd only been there once; in reality he had just called once at that time. She told me that he called her Saturday night, around 10 PM, telling her that he followed her brother's directions, but couldn't find the place. I think this is a very real indication of how troubled he must be right now -- he has a real disconnect with reality. He is a former Metro bus driver, so 'I can't find it' isn't much of an excuse. And did he print out (or even look at) a MapQwest map? And what's up with showing up at 10 PM, or not showing up as the case may be? Too many issues that my friend can't deal with right now. It makes me mad, but I believe she's right in not entertaining the anger at this stage of the game. Actually, the fact that he is living in her house is a good thing. It's preferable than leaving it empty for several months.
That said, since her belongings that were with her on the morning of the accident have gone missing, and aren't at the police station, and haven't been tracked down yet by the (I guess) Fire Department, she is missing all of her keys, and wallet, and personal items. You know that we women tend to carry our lives with us. So she's thinking it might be a good idea to have the locks changed at the house, and once again stop those pesky credit cards, and stop the iPhone, etc.. Once I get the numbers and descriptions of the set of keys that her brother has to her house, I will have my niece, who owns a lock and key company, take care of that for her. But I haven't gotten the information I need to get that done, yet. Perhaps tomorrow. Will keep you apprised, and thanks to those who have made comments. All positive energy is appreciated.
LESSEE... what else? Oh news for Herrad: my urologist told me that if I had a blockage problem, I could use distilled water to unplug it. It's much cheaper than sterile water, which you need an Rx for, anyway. I even got a large syringe to use for just that purpose. Luckily, that hasn't happened in quite some time.
I'm going to stop for now, but if I think of anything I'll add to it later today. Some of you may just have to read me twice!
Good Night, TTYL, and Be Well,

P.S. If anyone can tell me how I can permanently add my sign-off and signature to my Blogger text box, I'd sure appreciate it.
