River of Stone-2

Stone #2: January is the oft filled month of diets, of looking in the mirror and being unhappy with what we see. Well, I say that it’s time to finally make peace with our bodies, to stop abusing and berating them and start honoring them as the beautiful homes for our souls -- because that is what they are.

I am not my mind, but that which listens to it, and I am not my body, but that which contains it. I am so much more than what you or I can see.

I have asked DH to rearrange the living room again. It's not like I make this request often - it's been over a year since the last time and you would have thought I was telling him to go have a root canal for all the grumbling I heard. But this time I want to sit next to the window again (and the heater vent), and have a table on which to do some artwork (e.g. zentangle(r)),  as well as use my laptop. He suggested that I join him in the dining room, but there are some logistics to deal with in there. The table is a bit too high for me, or the seats are a bit too deep, or low, or whatever, but it is just not quite comfortable for me in there (even though it is warmer when the door to the LR is closed...). Another consideration: printer access!  And there are windows, so the light is good.

I still don't think it will work... but maybe I should give it a try to see if I can make some appropriate adaptations that will help before I make him move the furniture all around. What do you think? Oh, there also is the factor that he is always listening to TV or something on his computer. But if I bitch enough I do have a pair of headphones he can use (heh heh).

Good Night, TTYL, and Be Well,

  1. Webster - despite the fact that I just started Weight Watchers to lose some weight, I heartily agree with your sentiment. We should love our bodies regardless of size. In fact, I think this diet is rooted in loving my body. I need it to be stronger and healthier in order to take care of Skip and me in the years to come.

Ours is such a culture of body hate, especially for women. I am so saddened to hear expressions of body hate from so many women, especially young women; it's a pleasure to read words such as yours ... a voice in the wilderness that I hope gets some traction.

  3. I don't diet to lose weight, but I do follow and MS diet. I am coming to terms with my new body, with it's limitations and added weight. I like your stone for today.

I dislike sharing my space with anyone, too many distractions, so...I would make him move the furniture ;)

  4. PS: Have I mentioned how much I like your new look blog? Crisp, clean and beautiful. While I swelter in the heat.
