Summertine, and the Living is Easy
I've been enjoying a lazy Summer so far by doing as little as possible.
I did go to India Bazaar last week and buy the spices I need for chai, but I haven't made any yet. First I had to do some dishes, then we had a few hot days which precludes me doing anything near the stove. If I get up early enough tomorrow, I'll try to get to it, and make enough to last for a few days.
I had placed an order with Land's End that was having a summer sale. I got two pairs of pants, a pair of crops, a lightweight cardigan, a polo, a layering l/s tee/tank, and two s/s tees, and a pair of sandals and a pair of moccasins for me; I got DH two polos, two tees, and two l/s shirts. I do not want to see my next Visa statement because I'm sure I have spent about $200 more than I meant to, because unknown to me, DH also ordered a new battery for our lawn mower which cost, I think, $100. Remember, last month we bought my new mattress and comforter cover which brought my balance up to $1175. I've made a $475 payment on that already, and have $300 more ready, which will bring it to$700. Next month's payment of $400 makes it $300 plus the second LE purchase and my regular $45 for internet and netflix. It'll end up being around $550 I think. That's a bit higher than I'm comfortable with, so I will have to be very careful for the next few months. Please God, watch over my car, keep it running, mm'kay? If my friend gives me anything for rent I will put it directly on the Visa.
Speaking of my friend moving in, I guess I'll give her a name. Let's call her Lynn, okay? Well, right now Lynn is staying in Yakima where the temperatures are in the upper 90s, which means she hasn't felt like doing much of anything. Day before yesterday, she helped a friend put up a gift of a lot of (overripe) apricots, and today she was going to do the same for a 92 year old neighbor. She discovered that there is a mother skunk and three little ones living under her trailer; so far there has been no nearby spraying. Let's hope it's not just a matter of time. Her future ex-husband has himself a girlfriend, which has mellowed him out somewhat, so that takes the pressure off, and she has heard unofficially by her SSI caseworker that she has qualified and will hear from them in "two to six weeks."
I left a message for my brother tonight regarding getting some assistance moving my mattress and box springs out, and my new bed in, but he hasn't returned my call - yet.
Oh, Monday I went to the Green Spot for tea and a light lunch with the girls. It was a pleasant change from going out for coffee. After our nearly two hour lunch, which was mostly talking, I went to Trader Joe's, then to Fred Meyer. On Tuesday I had an appointment to have my cath changed, which went faster than normal for some reason. I followed that with a visit to Top Foods to pick up a couple coupon items. Once I got home the tiredness of two really good days set in. After sleeping and returning to nothing-doing I am glad to report I am feeling fine.
Today, I received the Dream Award from Stuey, a pleasant surprise!

So for my dream award I must list seven things that make me feel beautiful, so here goes!
1. When my DH comes behind me and gently moves my hair aside and kisses my neck I feel beautiful.
2. When I answer the whimpers and cries of my Basset Hound Beulah and am thanked by a wagging tail, I feel beautiful.
3. When I watch a movie on my computer and my Purnima insinuates herself onto my lap, I feel beautiful.
4. When I volunteer on a project that will raise money for the less fortunate, I feel beautiful.
5. When I am laughing really hard with friends, I feel beautiful.
6. When I am cold, then take a hot shower, I feel beautiful.
7. When I can open my home to someone who needs a place to stay, I feel beautiful.
So, Thanks Stuey, for the award. As usual, I probably won't be passing it along to seven others, but it made my day today.
Good Night, TTYL and Be Well
Hi Webster,
ReplyDeleteBeulah is the perfect name for a basset hound. It just fits! Bassets are my favorite breed ...
Best,
Marty
Hi Marty,
ReplyDeleteWhen we got her, DH thought of Jimmy Stewart's Mother in It's a Wonderful Life - that was her name. You're right, it's perfect for her.
