HEAT WAVE

It's a heat wave we're having here in the Pacific Northwest, and the last time we went five consecutive days above 90 degrees was in 1981. Yes, on the second day of that heat wave I was married in my parents' back yard. I was doing much better with my MS back then, but I'm sure I made it through the day due only to that extra rush of adrenaline that was coursing through my veins. Today, and the rest of the week, I have no such source of adrenaline, so it will be cooling vest time sitting in front of the fans. On top of it all, I've been having a few hot flashes, which to be fair, can only be characterized as warm surges when compared to those I have read about.

I have been drinking water, iced water, a fruit smoothie, several iced chai (yum), and a tangerine soda that I got at Trader Joe's. So I am staying hydrated.

My brother came over today and he and DH took the old mattress and box springs to the dump. YAY. Right now DH is vacuuming my room and putting in my bed with my new IKEA mattress. I hope it help me sleep well tonight! When I had the platform bed made, it was when I was using the w/c full time, so I had it made to a height
that was equal to the w/c seat to make transfers easy. Believe it or not, there was a short time when I needed to use a transfer board to maintain my independence. That day may come again, but it's not here yet.

Thank you to all who wished me a happy birthday. I appreciate your kind thoughts.

Good Night, TTYL and Be Well

  4. Ugh..the heat wave. It was 102 here in the mountains day before yesterday and in the mid 90's yesterday. (A cooling trend)? Thankfully we don't have any humidity, but heat is heat no matter what kind it is. I've simple been staying in and working on my crafting. Still not able to do much readying, which does NOT make me hsppy. Hopefully, things will cool down soon. Enjoy that new mattress!
