Next time, I'll listen to my intuition, which was screaming at me.
Upon reflection, everything that happened over the weekend that was onerous could have been prevented, except for the LONG HALL FROM HELL. Instead of going out for dinner when I was admittedly exhausted, I could easily have eaten at the hotel. Hell, I could even have paid a little extra and called for room service and really rested - but I'm too cheap (broke) for that, so realistically that wasn't an option. But taking that little jaunt to Freighthouse Square was a mistake I shouldn't have made.
Then, when I awoke and found that I was overheated, I could have, instead of getting up to turn down the thermostat, just flipped back all the covers and cool off enough that way. When I did get up, and turned down the heat and noticed I was having trouble walking, I thought about sitting on the foot of the bed - but I didn't. I tried to tough it out. And I fell.
So, this was my first experience with a fire department rescue, and I have to say that though it should have been avoided, they were wonderful. They were solicitous, but not overbearing. I asked the woman firefighter if they got a lot of "fallen and can't get up" calls, and she said yes. Most were from the elderly, and most were not nearly as nice as I was. She said they often yelled at them, "What took you so long?" and other silly complaints. That kind of behavior boggles my mind. I was just grateful for their help.
So, my knee isn't 100% but it's getting better. I didn't wrap it today and it feels steady. Improving, slowly but surely.
Good Night, TTYL and Be Well
I am glad you didn't get hurt too bad. I have been in that situation before, I've fallen and can't get up, but I had someone nearby to help. Thanks to the fire department.
ReplyDeleteDog gone Webster listen to that inner voice . It is always talking to us. That intuition is that small little voice that warns us, advices us and gives us that sixth sense to prevent stuff from going the wrong way. Thanks for your comments. If you can find a way to get a piano or at least a keyboard. It will do wonders for your soul and mind . Let's keep hanging in there. We are a tough crew.
ReplyDeleteThanks Kimberly, It was my first time to call the fired department because I, too, always have someone around to help. But Thank God they're there! Which reminds me, I should go talk to my local FD and ask them how they'd plan to get in if I was alone? Short of breaking the door down, that is!
ReplyDeleteAnd Charlie - I KNOW! Why I wasn't listening to that little voice I can only attribute to a fierce "I can do this" attitude. Only this time I was wrong. Ah, c'est la vie.
