My FAVORITE holiday song
I have a favorite Christmas song. It's not a carol, it is even a protest song of sorts, but one that is upbeat as well, and makes me smile every year. I am certain you will recognise it, but if not I am happy to introduce it to you. As you will see, I have been Googling a lot this evening.
First let's meet the writer, Jona Lewie, via a Ch. 4 reporter.
Now, sit back and watch and listen to his version of the song as he sang it in 1990.
and maybe, just maybe, if you like it as much as I do, you will have a listen to the version by the Cory Band that I heard and sang to, although DH and I got about 30% of the words wrong. [This link doesn't have a video, just audio and a photo.] Remember, we all didn't have Google back in the mid-1980's to find these things. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. This year I can sing it with the correct words. Yay, me!
Stop the Cavalry
Hey, Mr. Churchill comes over here
To say we're doing splendidly
But it's very cold out here in the snow
Marching to win from the enemy
Oh, I say it's tough, I have had enough
Can you stop the Cavalry?
I have had to fight, almost every night
Down throughout these centuries
That is when I say, oh yes, yet again
Can you stop the Cavalry?
Mary Bradley waits at home
In the nuclear fall-out zone
Wish I could be dancing now
In the arms of the girl I love
Dub a dub a dum dum
Dub a dub a dum
Dub a dum dum dub a dub
Dub a dub a dum
Dub a dub a dum dum
Dub a dub a dum
Dub a dum dum dub a dub
Dub a dub a dum
Wish I was at home for Christmas
Bang, that's another bomb on another town
While Luzar and Jim have tea
If I get home, live to tell the tale
I'll run for all presidencies
If I get elected I'll stop, I will stop the Cavalry
Dub a dub a dum dum... etc
Wish I was at home for Christmas
Wish I could be dancing now
In the arms of the girl I love
Mary Bradley waits at home
She's been waiting two years long
Wish I was at home for Christmas
Hoping listening to some seasonal music will get you in the Christmas spirit.
Be well,
And a Hip Hip Cheerio to me, for figuring out all by myself how to post those links. LOL It's not easy getting old.

Cute song -- I had never heard it before, but now I'm humming it in my head! Thanks for sharing it!
ReplyDeletePeace,
Muff
I remember it.

Ah yes, great lyrics :)
Good post.
Cool, I enjoyed the videos. And a roaring Hip Cheerio to you! It's not easy getting old, or having MS, which are both unfortunately a part of my life.
ReplyDeleteNot one I knew - but I like. A good protest song (which this is) is a thing of joy and beauty. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteNot your typical mushy Christmas song, is it? Gotta like that!
ReplyDeleteI will BE the season!
ReplyDeleteThank you, da da dumma dum!
Yeah, it kinda sticks with you, doesn't it? Glad you all liked it.
