Went to the Doctor Tuesday...
I just went to see my PCP to have my blood work checked. Last year I was borderline anemic and my cholesterol was just over 200. Because I have been so darned cold all year, I wanted him to check for both anemia and thyroid. Lo and behold he told me my numbers were all normal. It's the MS playing with my temperature regulation. Suggestion? Socks and sweaters. Very practical, and yes, doable, though it seems a little geriatric wearing a fleece vest when its 68 degrees out.
He called back later in the day to tell me that my Vitamin D level is just 11 -- normal is over 30! So he is calling in a script for Rx strength Vit D for me, and after that I will start taking a daily OTC capsule; we'll recheck it again in a month. He'll call tomorrow with my new cholesterol levels, and I will ask him about getting the flu shot which I completely forgot about at my visit. I've always avoided getting the shot because I never get the flu - - but my concern this year is that I have progressed to the point that if I get a fever I can't move, and I'd like to avoid that if I can. The spasms of the other night have stopped, but I've noticed feeling a weaker lately. Then I have a good day (like Tuesday), then it's back to everything being a chore. Such is my life.
Which is exactly why I am going to go mix with the unwashed masses at the Puyallup** Fair in a few days. I love exposing myself to a myriad of germ-carrying folk. The weather is supposed to be nicest this weekend, but that's also when the most children will be there - so maybe Friday or Monday will be better choices. Next week's weather projection looks iffy. **[pronounced pyoo-all-up, rhymes with gallup, if you were wondering. :-)]
Also, I just watched a delightful British movie from 1989 called Shirley Valentine. It made me laugh, and the ending was believably ambiguous.
Also, my surprise of the day was receiving the Into the Moonlight award from Herrad. Thanks so very much; it's lovely. Yes, it is.
Good Night, TTYL and Be Well.
I used to go to the Fair every year. Now that I live an hr or so away, I just don't make it.
ReplyDeleteThe smell in the Fall air ... reminds me of it though.
love that photo, really beautiful. Hope you feel better, it is so tough getting old! DAR
ReplyDeleteI knew someone named Shirley Valentine, so I saw the movie years ago - a delight. I just read the book Skinny Bitch, made me laugh out loud. And I learned a few things too. Be well.
ReplyDeleteHope your feeling better soon. The flu shot - oh boy I forgot that I need to get one.
ReplyDeleteI just started taking the vitamin D too Since I am a slug the last few weeks I was hoping my thyroid would have been off - no such luck LOL so when all else fails - blame it on the MS.

My Vit D was low too (it was WINTER in Seattle, come on!) so neuro put me on 50,000IU, after 2 days I was in ICU at Swedish for 5 days. They NEVER found out the problem, but only thing I had done different was the D (which they took me off immediately) then after 2 months of sun this summer, my Vit D was perfectly normal. GEEZ
ReplyDeleteSooo...that's my experience with D in Seattle. I'm no Dr., I'm just saying. (I have MORE to say about D in a post soon)
