Another Bladder Infection
Four weeks to the day after I finished ten days of Cipro to treat a bladder infection I must start another ten days of Levaquin for (probably the same) a bladder infection! I have taken three pills, and STILL I'm leaking! Dare I say thank God for Depends? Speaking of which I will need to buy another package of them as I'm down to three.
Must drink more water. That's what it boils down to. I've been off my routine -- and I can't remember what threw me off -- but I'd better get back on it because I had been doing pretty well. I went four months clear, and before that I went five months clear. I think since I started drinking coffee more, I've been slacking with the water. It should be the other way around; when you increase your caffeine intake, you should also increase your water intake to offset the diuretic effect of the caffeine. I know this, so why don't I do this? Enuf said 'bout that.

I can't wait until my friend actually moves over here. She had doctor appointments in Yakima last week, and has one on Tuesday to get the results of the tests they did. So, I'm not sure when she's coming back exactly, but it probably will be before next weekend.
I have been waiting so long for DH to do laundry that I was down to one pair of underwear! I would have been totally out, except for the use of Depends. Also, all my summer tees and tops were in the wash, too. Yes, pants too. Well, after getting no response to many requests, I decided to do laundry last night and today. It was exhausting! But - I did it. Now I have clean underwear that I dare not depend on, at least not until this infection clears up. I also washed a tee-shirt that he never washed because it said "dry clean only" on the label. I told him that was probably because the sunflower design was embellished with sequins, but still he left it in the basket. Since last summer! I turned it inside out, and put it in a mesh "delicates" bag, and it came out just fine, though I haven't tried it on to see if it shrank any, but even if it did, I say nothing ventured, nothing gained. At least now I have a chance at wearing it again.
I have a family BBQ to attend this Sunday. I'll be driving with my cousin, since my brother hasn't called me yet. He's supposed to pick up my brother who lives in Japan from the airport Saturday. Saturday I'll be making a noodle dish to take to the BBQ and going to the store to pick up a few things. I wish I felt better. This infection is sapping my stamina, what little of it I do have.
Whenever I start to feel the effects of the MS start to take over in my life, I put on my yellow LIVESTRONG bracelet made popular by Lance Armstrong for cancer awareness. I like to look down and see the nessage. I like it so much better than the red MS bracelet I have that says HOPE on it. Hope for the best, sure, but to live well with MS I have to do much more than hope - I have to, well, live strong. So that's why I'm not going to blow off the BBQ with the excuse that I don't feel like going because I'm (temporarily) incontinent. I'm going to be glad it's not going to be hot, and wear my newly found shirt with the sunflowers, and have a good time.
Good Night, TTYL and Be Well
I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble. A bladder infection is what put me into sepsis and that put me in a coma.
ReplyDeleteAfter almost four years, I still battle with them.
I do hope you can get over this one ...
When I had transverse myelitis, I so used depends, I so know what it's like ...
Enjoy the bbq anyway ...
Hi Webster,
ReplyDeleteHave a great time at the BBQ.
Love,
Herrad
Hi Webster,
ReplyDeleteForgot to say I have just had two UTI's too.
Antibiotics make you feel nauseous, hate them.
Have a great Sunday.
Thinking about you lots.
Love,
Herrad
JC - I wondered what precipitated your coma. A bladder infection! We're all walking a fine line, aren't we? I'm glad you're doing as well as you are, with minor symptoms - relatively speaking.
ReplyDeleteHerrad - I plan to enjoy the BBQ :-). The Cipro made me feel nauseous, but this Levaquin does not. Same family, different beast.
Happy sunshine to you both!
Webster,
ReplyDeleteHope yu enjoyed that BBQ! Add some cranberry juice to your drinking routine. It will help with the infection. Hope it clears up SOON!
I like your perspective on adding Live Strong.

Thanks Kimberly,
ReplyDeleteI do take a cranberry extract capsule which has the equivalent of 425 mg. of cranberry juice powder, at least one every day; what works best for me is simply avoiding dehydration. Apparently infections are very common with catheters, so avoiding them is important. I'm working on it!
