IKEA trip - step one
DH and I went to Seattle today to pick up our lawn mower which had a recall on it, so whatever part was involved was replaced for free. Now we (he) needs to find a good deal on batteries for it. We used to have an electric mower, but it didn't last very long. I know dragging a cord around can be a pain in the ass, but at least it doesn't require replacement after three years. Anyway, that's his job - to do a thorough search for replacement batteries so he doesn't have to weed-whack the lawn all summer.
Then we went to IKEA to buy my new mattress. After lying on several**, and DH doing the same, I decided on the Sultan Elsfjord model (which is quite firm) for $449. Good price for a mattress with a 23 year warranty. I also bought a set of beige sheets, and a Brunkrissla duvet cover in the red/orange/yellow colors that are so warm and colorful, bright and comforting. It will be nice when it is set up - but first.... so much to do.
So, now I need to clear away a butt-load of junk and books, sort clothes to give away, and so on. For that I need to schedule friends, which is apparently harder that it it should be, but all things in due time.
Tonight, I should be doing so preparation for a presentation I need to make at my meeting on Thursday - so I'll get right on that.
Good Night, TTYL and Be Well
**Memory Foam - so comfy yet so impossible to move on. I laid* on one mattress that I thought was going to eat me alive! It was so impossibly comfortable! Conclusion: even 2 1/2 inches of memory foam would not work for me. [*laid - help me here folks. Is this the correct usage? I'm very confused! Argh!]
As a former English teacher, I wanted to let you know that the correct word is LAY. It is the past tense of LIE. The past participle is LAIN.
ReplyDeleteSo...Today, I lie on the mattress..
Yesterday, I lay on the mattress...
I have lain on the mattress all week...
The word LAID is the past and past participle of LAY.
I lay the book on the table.
Yesterday, I laid the book...
I have laid...
Too much info? Sorry... But you did ask...
Thank you SOOO much. I almost wrote lay, but then I started second guessing and, well, you know...
ReplyDeleteYou didn't have to remain anonymous that. I'm sure many many people screw that up and will benefit from your comment. Again, thanks.
And to clarify - the first LAY has to do with people (or animals) and the second LAY has to do with objects?
Sorry about the Anonymous -- I just don't know how to sign in properly. I don't have a blog of my own yet, but I'm considering it... For now, I'll just be known as "Muff."
ReplyDeleteYes, the lie, lay, lain verb is intransitive -- no object after verb. The lay, laid, laid is transitive -- takes an object. There are quite a few of these confusing verbs!
PS I really enjoy your blog!!
OK, but can you get LAID on the mattress? LOL
