Lots to Update

First, I turned 59 on the 24th of July. No cake, no presents, nada. It was a little disappointing. Next year had better be different!! It will be a landmark birthday after all.

** We have celebrated another anniversary! We were married on the hottest day of the year in 1987; It was August 8, 1987 -- 27 years ago. Sometimes it feels like 27 years, and at others it feels like no time at all. We both have brought baggage into the relationship. With me, it was MS; and with him it was his predisposition to depression. Together we are quite the match. I am a Leo and he is a Taurus, which is why we are stubborn enough to make it work. I have other thoughts about that which I will keep to myself.

** Last Saturday two friends from sorority dropped by to deliver a free Canon printer that was left over at the yard sale. I wish I had known which model it was, because it turns out that it is one of their cheaper models, and it was not like the one that we had that has a messed up printer head; don't know yet if the printer heads are compatible. Apparently there were several printers left at the end, and they were just going to end up at Good Will.It was nice to have some company out on the patio, but it seemed a little crowded what with all the potted plants we have out there.

** I have been having a problem with edema of my feet and legs, so I went into the Saturday clinic to have it checked out. I started on Lasix and Potassium, and boy did It help me purge some water! Already my feet are less tender, though still swollen. Hopefully I can get back into my shoes by the end of the week.

** I had a renal ultrasound on June 30, and a cystoscopy on July 31. I've had my suprapubic catheter in for ten years! It doesn't seem that long. These tests were done to make sure that having a catheter in for so long isn't irritating the bladder which can lead to cancers or lesions. But EVERYTHING LOOKS GOOD. Yay for me.

** I  bought two Woot T-shirts; one for my cousin Charlotte. It was called "Charlotte's Bored" and she had written "meh" in her web.  My cousin had blue eyes, and she often wears light blue to match them. The day of the picnic she was wearing a light blue shirt, but when she put on this royal blue Tee, her blue eyes just popped! Also, the shirt fit her better than they fit me, she's taller!   i bought one for my brother: "Put the Lime in the Coconut," because when he came home on leave from Vietnam he would play that Nilsson Schmilsson album over and over, and it reminded me of him. I haven't heard if it even fits him so I guess I'll have to send an e-mail.

** My other brother is going to put his house on the market to sell, and buy a bigger one in hopes that his wife will actually move in with him. He recently retired and basically has cut her off, so to speak, she goes through his money like nobody's business; he will no longer be paying for her rent in a separate apartment. So a new house will have to do. I'm sure he will love no longer living alone, and having an autistic child around all the time.

** I need new glasses! It's been four years since I got these, and clearly my vision has changed. I have been using my old readers for a few months now, and am getting tired of not being able to see properly.

** Even though I can't see my new PCP until September 25 (I also tried Family Practice and they were equally booked out), I have made a request on-line for a referral to PT, and for an in-home OT evaluation. I also need  to go to DSHS to get a Social Worker to help me navigate the system. Hopefully I can get an approval for a new fully electric hospital bed... if she can make a case for it.

I hope that was discursive enough for you,

TTYL,

  1. Wow. Busy, busy, busy.
And happy belated birthday. Next time? Fireworks, cake, presents. Mandatory.
I am thrilled you got the all clear after the renal ultrasound, and that your oedema is improving.
Here? I am wrestling through the maze of red tape to see if anyone can help me make my bathroom accessible - and safe.

    1. Since next year's is a landmark birthday, I'm throwing myself a party!

I never knew that having an indwelling catheter puts one at risk for bladder cancer. Wasn't given that choice tidbit of information. But, all's well. Yay!

Bathroom remodel? I need one as well, but no money for it. I would like to move, but DH won't hear of it. Good luck with that.

  2. Happy birthday and anniversary! I, too, have edema in my right foot -- finding shoes that fit is a hassle. I don't want to take any water pills, though -- I go enough as it is. I also don't want a catheter -- I can't imagine wearing a bag. So for now, I just schedule powder room visits often. I know, TMI!! You sound as if things are going well for you, and that's great!! If I ever get another blog going, I'll let you know the address.

    1. I have been really behind in my blog reading, so I missed your adieu. Google removing a blogger blog; if you really want to lose it all, you can. I think it's a great thing to have to refer to. I will miss reading you. It has been a joy.

      Keep up with the comments!
