Ralapse from Hell

For the last week, since last Friday, I have been going from my usual pretty lousy to very much worse. I called my neurologist, Dr.H., and he had me come right in. Usually when I call his office he just calls in a three day treatment of SoluMedrol. When I saw him Friday he set me up with five days.

Today was Day Two; this morning I felt a at I little better, getting up and dressed from my regular lowish bed height, and without the flat bed pillow under me to give me some extra height to help with the rising that I have been using for the last several days. So far, so good. May this progression continue.

I stayed up late last night, as usual, and got up after  four hours to turn over, and then got another two hour just for good measure.

I usually am a tough stick; I have pediatric veins and they usually end up getting it in on the top of my hand, which is not comfortable when you want to keep it in for three or four days. They remembered me from my last visit last March. My site stayed just fine in my hand for all four days. VERY UNUSUAL; MEMORABLE, EVEN TO THE STAFF AFTER MORE THAN A YEAR!

Yesterday they got me on the second poke. First they tried the right arm, but the vein blew. So they brought in another nurse and she tried the same vein on the left forearm, and got a good stick first time. Happy, happy, joy, joy. It held well for Day Two and I am hopeful that it will hold for all five days, it being on the arm and all.

Yet today, at home I felt flushed for awhile, but now that's gone. Now I have started peeing my pants, a little at a time. After going through three pairs of panties, I've put on a pair of Depends.

Very little seems to be entering my Belly Bag through my SP catheter, so I wonder if I have an infection, and if so, if it was caused somehow by the SoluMedrol. I hope I remember to ask about that tomorrow.

Oh God, I hope this treatment helps me get stronger. I am so tired of being so weak, especially to the point of need DH's help to do the simplest things, like pulling up my pants. This morning, as I said, was better. But tonight moving around while seated on my walker has been marginal.  And now this.

Right after my treatment I was holding up my legs pretty well, getting back out to the car. The car was warm and I got overheated, so getting out of the car wasn't so easy, but I managed to walk into the house, whereas yesterday I used the wheelchair both ways, and into my treatment. I would call that progress for two treatments. May three more days of this fix me up -- better than normal.

My last treatment in March 2012 was a wash. I caught DH's cold two days after, and all my progress became nil; totally back to pre-normal, and a snivelling mess to boot. But that was then, and this is now. I hope only for the best.

Good Night, TTYL and Be Well,

P.S. None of those pictures were mine; they were from Google Images, which did not have one of the IV in a hand, bastards. They had a few women in thongs, though; go figure.

  2. I am so sorry to hear this.
I've done the five day and the three day.
So, I do know how this goes.
(I had transverse myelitis and they thought I might have ms.)
    I hope this helps you.

  3. Webster, you get better -- that's an order. Good thing you explained about the Google images because I was going to ask you about the tattoo! Good luck with your treatments, and I'll pray that they work for you.

  5. i sure hope the treatment helps! The DUH factor: MS Sucks. Not sure if having a UTI is better than having the problem cause be something else? Best wishes, fingers crossed, prayers said . ....

  7. So sorry to hear about this relapse...you described my veins also, I hate IVs because of the sticks. We do take simple things like pulling up your pants for granted, I hope you improve

  8. I havd considerd asking for some Solu IV, usually 3 days...I used to get it every 3-4 months for several years. My veins were small too...must post about that...seems so long ago. I was determined to STOP the vein search (DIG) problem, so that is why I lift weights at the wrist, and curls, every day. Now my veins POP out, pretty cool. Back of hand, yep--major OW. I had to end that. I am surprised Solu still helps you. We must discuss that one day. 5 days, wow, I'd be on fire. I can't stand anything touching my skin after THREE days! But if it helps...HEY, who DOESN'T wear thongs during this IV treatment! Depends comes in "Thong Adjustable."
    Hang in there, buddy.
