Health Concerns and Getting a Hoveround - Part 2
The story continues. I did go to the sleep specialist on the 13th (ho hum) and she told me to turn off all electronics an hour before bedtime, to take a melatonin at 1 AM, and to go to bed at 3 AM. I was to set my alarm for 10 AM and get up right away, putting my feet on the floor. As if...
She wants me to change my habit of getting nine+ hours sleep a night to seven. And she want me to work back the clock gradually. (that makes sense) I am to take a Ritalin upon awakening, and again at about 3 PM. Okay, I'll need it.
Have I done any of this? A Big Fat NO. Mind and body are balking at the idea; getting no cooperation from either at all. However, my next appointment with her isn't until July 18, so there's plenty of time to give the new routine a good try.
In the meanwhile, I have had my mammogram (which was all OK), but I forgot to schedule the bone density test while I was there so it's on the TO DO list. And I have scheduled, after playing much phone tag, my colonoscopy for July 23, but need to clarify that tomorrow. I have scheduled a dentist appt. for the 16th if July using an AmazonLocal voucher that I bought ten months ago then misplaced. $69 for a cleaning, exam, e-rays, and a whiting kit. Not Bad... thought I'm sure they'll find lots of other things to do to me, but I'll cross that bridge when I get to it (with money in my pockets).
So -- the Hoveround. I have decided to Not get a hoveround because of the negative word of mouth that I read on the internet. Complaints about them breaking down after only two years, complaints about getting a lousy fit, complaints about being unable to find a dealer to work on them, etc. etc. Too many complaints for me to ignore.
So, when I went into see my sleep specialist, I managed to get a word in with my neuro and asked him about getting a "mobility exam" so I could get a Jazzy. He promptly told me he didn't favor any one brand over another, and I countered with that doesn't matter. He told me he would have PT do the exam. That was two weeks ago and I haven't heard anything more.
What is the fucking problem? Do I have a sign that says "Kick Me" on my back? I really do not understand why this should be so fucking difficult. And that is where I will leave you, until I know more. I feel like the little engine that could: IthinkIcanIthinkIcanIthinkIcanIthinkIcan......
In any case, I will keep trying.
Be well, Be happy,

Be well, Be happy,

Interesting sleep routine suggestions.
ReplyDeleteWhen I think about it getting up at 9am to go to PE class when school is in session does end up with me getting less sleep (6-7 hrs) has me preforming better. During the summer the routine ends and I have nights/days with 3 hours sleep followed by 12 hour crashes.
I can not see your back so not sure if a kick me sign is attached. Personally I suspect that so many people have abused the system that folks who really need things get the brunt of the fall out.
I am cynical. People who whine, scream and act like the world owes them everything seem to get what they want while those who show some civilized decorum lose out.
i'm disappointed to read that the hoverround received bad reviews... :(
ReplyDeleteand boy you are taking care of every system in your body this month eh? from your teeth all the way down to the nether regions! good for you!
i need to do the same, but no insurance just yet... gotta wait for coach's stuff to kick in...
Webster, the health issues all seem to be positive -- that's great.. I can't believe all the hassle about the HR and now the Jazzy. Maybe if they were getting rebates [the way many are getting from the drug companies....did I say that???] they'd move their bloomin' arses! Good luck -- sounds as if you'll need it.
ReplyDeletePeace,
Muff
Thanks for your support. I need to talk with ... my PCP or neuro, (or my health insurance since the lady at The Scooter Store told me that they don't cover elec. w/c's!) about getting a referral for PT, I guess, since these weenies don't seem able to answer a few simple questions about my mobility.
ReplyDeleteGlad you decided against the Hoover round Webster After your PT appt find a good vendor for a chair. Jazzy's seem to be quite good. A lot of folks like olympic pharmacy in gig harbor. If insurance won't pay give me a call
ReplyDeleteDiane and I are hoping to get together mid July and were thinking it would be fun if you joined us!
Gretchen
Hi Gretchen,

Hey there! Can I just tell you one thing...

Gather everything inside of you take a deep breath and KICK THE FLIP BACK!!!!!!
((((hugging you))))

How about July 13th? 9:30AM? I have a private caregiver here from 9-12. I hope you guys won't be disappointed. My ideal would be to meet at The Viewpointe bistro. My caregiver could get our Starbuck's. Would give us more gab time. July is my appt month too. Oh joy. LOL
ReplyDeleteHey, that med/sleep regimine seems whack to me...must think on it, but...hmmm. You'll figure it out. ZZZZZs very important. Hover Round--still don't get it. CALL THE PT yourself and schedule an appt., bother the H out of them, mine can't WAIT to see me, thet call ME!! Swedish sends then to my apt. with power chair salesman in tow and pressure is on for me to choose. Why are they screwing with you so much??? Move back to Seattle. (That is my answer to all life's problems.)
ReplyDeleteWhoops, I meant July 20th. And I will call you at 10am Tues, if I get back from Dr by then. i'm emailing you now. issue has arisen.
