Spring has Sprung
Finally we're in the midst of Spring, complete with a few 70 degree days. Our pear and apple trees were FULL of blooms that several rain showers did not knock off. Now my hope is that our Orchard Mason Bees did their work and pollinated like the busy little critters are supposed to do. Our rhubarb is growing nicely out back, though I can't get back there to see it. Our lilac tree is doing well enough that DH had to cut back a large branch to let it some light for the rhubarb. The last time I saw the lilac it only produced a few blooms. This one branch filled two large vases with sweetness.
Still, I have been out on the patio only once so far, as I am cold all the time. Go figure. I sleep in too late to take advantage of the sun when it's not too warm; I am particularly temperature sensitive this year, it's annoying. I've been looking forward to riding my scooter up to the library when I realised that the switch to turn on the electric garage door opener is just inside the door which is up two steps. I have to figure out a way around that. The steps are exactly the width of my walker - with NO margin for error. Scary when you're leaning on it for support, and reaching around for the switch. Maybe using something like a stick to flip the switch from a distance... must ruminate on that one.
We (my sorority group) had our Mother's Day Luncheon last Saturday, and it was lovely. Perfect weather for having it at the Tacoma Yacht Club. This weekend is out State Convention and it's in Olympia. I've been doing so poorly lately that I am actually scared to get out of my comfort zone. I am going to take the scooter and have enlisted the aid of one of my Sister's husbands to help me get it out of the trunk for me. [Reminder to self: charge cell phone.] If I am lucky, I'll find some time to go to the Farmer's Market, but I will have to be sure someone is around to put the scooter back inside the trunk for me, so I'll have to be careful with planning. Perhaps talk to the hotel. I have made it to the spot with my MS where I am scared to be alone. This is not fun for a loner which I am by nature.
I have scheduled an appointment with my PCP for next Wednesday to get the process moving for my Hoveround. I need to have him do a mobility assessment, or refer me to PT to do one, and Hoveround will be sending him some paperwork with what they need from him. I didn't go with my neurologist because, well, I just think that he hates to fuss with that kind of paperwork. I tend to speak more candidly with my PCP. He's also with the medical group in Tacoma that I prefer: Fransiscan. So send some positive "let Webster get her Hoveround" thoughts this way which also includes "let DSHS have the wisdom to give Webster help with her co-pays" ju-ju. Apparently, since the January COLA, I make $10 too much for them to cover my co-pays. I filled out a "spend down" application, and haven't heard back. I think I may have to go in for a face-to-face. Don't know. I know they turned me down for in-home help a few years ago, but that was probably because DH is here in the house all the time. Let him do it. [Yeah, right.] [well, he does most of it, just not always the way I like it, or when I want it.]
Okay, that's it for now. I'll try to post more, even though I'm not obligated to.
Be Well, Be Happy,

I am so sorry that you are doing it so tough at the moment. I will certainly send powerful positive wishes through the blogosphere for you to get your Hoveround.

ReplyDeleteHi, Webster, how about a "clapper" for that garage light? I soooo understand about needing to have people around all the time to help. Prayers and good thoughts for your hoveround and assistance.

Don't spend that $10 all in one place now.
ReplyDeleteHoverround, Hoverround, go Hoverround - directly to Webster. do not pass go but collect co pay. Oh yeah and if this works how about a nice place like Park Place or Board Walk?
Spring has srung here, and I think summer is invading this weekend with predicted temps in the high 80's. No play time outside for me! Hope you get your hovercraft!
