One more thing...

Oh yeah, one more lovely thing happened, or almost happened, as I was driving home from my meeting Thursday night. I made a left turn on a green light in front of oncoming traffic.

Yeah. I came this close to getting my car smashed at 40 MPH. I was apparently on automatic pilot and just turned when the light changed. It was a good thing I had enough time to step on the brakes, and the other car had enough time to react and swerve and miss me, and the second much bigger car could pass me on the other side as there was nobody else on the street. It was, after all, nearly 10 PM. The street gets fairly well used during the daytime... not so much at night.

My excuse: inattention- pure and simple. I was paying attention to the light and not to the oncoming cars, who weren't there one minute, and were the next.  Apparently because I had just slowed for what had been a red light, and they were already going 40 MPH so they reached the intersection much faster. As I said, I wasn't paying attention.

Pure luck or my guardian angel -- it doesn't really matter; I'm still here, with reddened face. My bad.

I knew something else happened Thursday; Just knew it.

  1. Hi Webster,
Thank God you avoided an accident. Just this morning a car took a left in front of me without noticing that I was there (i.e. he didn't bother to look both ways or even stop at a stop sign). Fortunately, I sensed that he wasn't looking and swerved out of his way to avoid a collision. He smiled sheepishly and waved at me. I beeped and glared ...
    Best,
    Marty

  2. Webster, I am glad you are here to post another day. It also made me realize how fragile our blogging world truly is. One could vanish into the night without any of us knowing what happened. I would hate, hate that.

In fact, there is a blogger I used to follow who has (had?) MS and to this day I wonder what happened to her.

    Glad you are okay! =)

  3. Whew! that must have been scary! I haven't driven in a while, but I know my heart would have been pounding if it had been me in that car! So happy you're safe.
    Peace,

  6. I saw a guy do that on a motorcycle yesterday afternoon on my way home from work. He caught himself and stopped, but almost dumped the bike.

Then, he sat and blushed as the traffic began to flow around him.

My hubby has done it, too. In our brand new car, with me and our newborn riding along.

We just get brain farts now and then.

    Glad you didn't get munched.

  7. Webster, I so know how you must have felt seeing your old friend. I too, have had that experience and wondered well how can she not remember me. I mean I remembered her! It was nice of her to give you all the tickets. I also know about the accident "almost" caused. I have "almost" caused a couple of them myself and think, what was I thinking or not thinking. It worked out and I am still here, thankfully - Just a little more cautious!
