Lakewold Gardens, Lakewood WA

Saturday I went with a sorority sister to see a talk given by a long lost dear friend of mine. She has followed her bliss and is making a living from it: She grows ferns-- from spore. She has become quite the expert in her field. I know!

Back when I first met her I was still in high school; I babysat her firstborn, and second born, but not the third; I house-sat for her, and watered her many plants, both inside and out. Yet when I saw her and called her name, she looked at me and said "Gee, you look really familiar..." Of course, she remembered me once I refreshed her memory, but to say that I was a little disappointed would be an understatement.

To be fair, it has been 23 years since I've seen her, but I don't think I look any more different than she does, which is to say, a little grayer and a few more wrinkles. And, big clue, I chose to use the wheelchair today, and she knew all about that era of my life.  Oh well, it was still good to hear of her. And she told us she would comp us two tickets to the House and Garden Expo in Seattle next February, which will be good, as this particular sister of mine is a Master Gardener, and will want to go in any case.

We lucked out weather wise as the sun came out all afternoon, and the temp got all the way up to 65. Qu'el surpris! By the time dinnertime rolled around we were back to rain, rain, rain, and it continued off and on through Sunday, only Sunday was about ten degrees cooler.

As usual after an outing, I came home and promptly fell asleep in my chair. Then I stayed up all night and watched The Madness of King George, and Zentangled my name.

I definitely need to have a system to keep track of the tangles (and how to make them); I have started doing this by making them on tags (2 1/8 x 4 1/4) which I will put on a ring in some sort of order. I also need to find an appropriate container for my growing collection of pens, h2o color pencils, etc. Every hobby comes with its own start-up cost............... ain't that the truth. I have three books that I'd like to have spiral bound together. They're relatively small - 8 1/2" square - and if they were put together like this I could get them to lie flat for easier reference.

I had my neuro appointment last Wednesday, and I was right, I am slowing down. My 25' walk was 30% slower than eight months ago. Now he wants me to have blood drawn to check for Vitamin D deficiency and to get a comprehensive metabolic panel. Then he wants me to have another MRI - probably of head only, even though many of my symptoms are spinal related - e.g. bowel/bladder, diminished sensation in my hands/feet, and like that.

I was supposed to have my cath changed on Thursday, but the electric door override couldn't be accessed, and the elevators weren't working; I suppose I could have walked up the stairs since I had my forearm crutch in the car - I just didn't think of it. And of course we didn't go home right away, and they weren't open on Friday, so I'll have to reschedule that for this week, preferably sooner than later.

So, all of this is coming up on the week I have to get ready for our State Convention (WOO HOO). Plus, I have to figure out what to wear - I usually dress so casually, and two events on Saturday I should dress up a little. Laundry needs to be done, prescriptions need to be filled, i's need to be dotted and t's need to be crossed. [Why do those apostophes look wrong to me? because is is plural of i, yet that doesn't look right either. Anyone? Muffie??]

And one last thing. Does anyone who reads here have Skype, and if so how often do you use it? I know it's a free download, and DH has already done that part, but I would still need a microphone and headphones. I'm wondering if it's worth it. So chime in on that too, please.

Good night, TTYL, and Be Well,

  1. I did many of those oh yeah now I remember you conversations at the memorial. Oh well I thought.

I have never used Skype but have been thinking about it also. Maybe someone will have the 411 for us?

I thought it might be fun to see who I was typing at LOL

Here is to hoping the weather would just make up it's mind. We keep going from 80's back to the 50's and my body is revolting!

As for the plural letters I believe it is correct lower case-apostrophe-s .

If a capitalized letter like A then the apostrophe is not necessary?

    MUFF!!!???

  2. In my memory, everyone from college looks the same as I remember them. I went to a reunion a few years ago and I couldn't figure out a few and I'm sure they didn't know who I was either.

Sorry to hear that your mean friend, ms, is causing you trouble.

I do have skype but I don't use it. I don't have a camera either. My d does use it to talk to her friends.

  3. Webster - Sometimes I think I expect too much of friends or so folks tell me. The scenario with your dear old friend would have really, uh, disappointed me as well.

I tried Skype a few years ago but without a good headset. Everyone said I sounded like I was at the bottom of the barrel. So, I think that's key. Good luck.

  4. Muff to the rescue! You place the apostophe between the i and the s because without it, it would read the verb 'is.' Strictly speaking, you don't need it with the t and the s, but it keeps your writing consistent.
When you mentioned your appt. and the changes, I think I'll experience the same. I stopped Copaxone in Oct. over the dire warnings of the neuro's PA (Ohhh, I'm so scared!) and I do notice the decline. BUT -- who's to say it wouldn't have happened even if I had stayed on the C!!
    Peace,
    Muff

  5. wow! you have been busy! i love that 60 degree weather and long for it... alas, i will be longing for it for the next 6 or 7 months... in the meantime we are stuck in the upper 90's with at least 7,468,307% humidity.... ugh

i have so many pens and pencils and other stuff now! lol i never thought i'd get so into pens.... i have taken a few cups from the cupboard and have them in those for now... i too need to find a system for keeping them handy yet organized....

i don't have skype... don't have a webcam but i want it! i have thought about diving off into that world soon.. the grandgirls have access to skype so i think it would be a large time to video chat with them

    be well!

  6. Okay, so the jury is still out on the Skype thing, but I might get a web cam and headphones anyway, if only so I can still communicate with Herrad.

The thing that caught me off guard with my friend not recognizing me told me that she meant more to me than I did to her, and that's always a disappointment, I guess. Oh well, we were at very different times in our lives.

Thanks Muff, that was what I thought. Upper case Ps and Qs didn't look right either and Ss is just dumb, so it's a rule for consistency, not just to save the As and Is. (LOL)

Sherry, you have a nice desk to line up your cups of writing tools; mine is already at capacity. I am finding that I like the larger format of 9x12" better than the smaller tiles I've made. I am working on one with a double string done with two pencils.

Tomorrow we might actually hit 70! Oh happy, oh joy.

  8. HiWebster,
Sorry about my lack of visits.
Spike illness, quick death and being so ill jan/feb to march meant no visits
Since then I have been spending more time sitting in my wheelchair I have also not been visiting.
    Tonight I decided to visit.
I just passed by to say hello.
I hope you are doing well, despite getting slower.
Skype is good, my webcam has a microphone too.
    Love,
    Herrad

  11. i am trying to get motivated again to do tangles but i am too depressed. =(

i love the tags idea though. i think of different things i want to do but most of my art/personal stuff is in storage and there's not much i can do about that.

i'll skip out on this grammar class. :-)
