"Webster?" no answer

That's right, folks, I've been absent for  awhile from reading and  commenting on your blogs because   my laptop is, er, temporarily out of commission. It happened on Christmas day, and I  got it  back for three days, then DH decided that  since I can''t access the library from a  Linux OS he's going to put on a virtual Windows so I can read my beloved books.

He's been running into   all sorts of problems with the factory installed Windows that came with my Dell, so he's working through them one at a time. In the meanwhile, I get to watch TV and crochet.

I am typing this from his computer which is at the dining room table, and is not ergonomically set up  for my back. So I have to stop for now and promise to catch up ASAP. Damn, being without my computer is a bitch. I think I'm going through the DTs. When I hear his muttered swearing it's hard to remain optimistic, but there is no other option. At one point  he told me he  lost everything, then   later he said he got it  back, but is not sure if he got it   all.

So keep your fingers crossed for me - okay? I'd appreciate it.

Good night, TTYL, and Be Well
Webster

  1. I am glad you got to post!
    I have missed you!

Computer malfunctions totally suck. Not only are they just plain pain in arses when then croak but they take away connections.

If I understand this correct your laptop stopped working with the XP then he put on Linux and is going for virtual windows? Augh what a nightmare.

My computer woes really brought it front an center how important a connection to well - expand my limited little world as I call it -

I have all my free and movable appendages crossed for you - I look like a pretzel . ...

  3. It must be something in the water. Seems like everybody's having computer trouble.

I love Linux, but I think of it more as a hobby than an operating system. What library app were you using? I had Adobe Digital Editions running on Linux using Wine (which makes it possible to run Windows applications on other operating systems), but I remember it took some tinkering.

Well, good luck. All this high-tech stuff is great… when it's working!

  6. Linux?! You folks are hardcore. There seems to be something in the air with computer problems -- Jan, Zoom too. Good luck.

What are you crocheting? All I ever learned was the granny square.

  7. yeah, it does feel like withdrawl when online communication is a primary means of social discourse...well it is for me anyway...when mine was in the shop for a few days I found myself pestering my kids to borrow their laptops...which was only fair since they did the same thing to me before they had their own!
