My first Zentangles, and a little bit more
I'll get this party started and see where it takes me. Thanks to Sherry I have made a couple of Zentangles(c). Call it doodling as an art form; call it a way to waste time in the doctor's waiting room; call it an idea that made some people a LOT of money - a cash cow that keeps producing by selling quality products. I have just purchased two artist quality pens, and I haven't even thought of getting the tiles to draw on - much too costly in my opinion, but I may end up getting a smallish notebook that I can take with me easily. I wanted to post my first attempt which was done before I had read anything about it.
#1 IMPROMPTU 1.22.11
#2 APHID 1.27.11
This one was done on a 3.5" square format on the same envelope, and which is the size of the tiles that are included when you buy supplied from Zentangle(c). My 50 envelopes cost me $4.49 - and they want $20 for a pack of (I think) 30 tiles. Since I'm not made of money, I'll likely go the notebook route when I've finished with my envelopes. I also have decided not to name them anymore. A simple number and date will be fine. I like how this one turned out. And it no longer reminds me of aphids! LOL What was I thinking? It was late...I was tired... Enuf said.
Sherry, if you know what to do with these to make them fit on your new website, feel free to take them away - between packing boxes, of course. Just don't put them in one of your boxes! LOL
And now for a completely different subject. Imagine my surprise when I weighed myself after the dreaded holiday season, when everyone I know complains of the added pounds, to find that I have lost seven pounds since ThanksgivingI I am now officially 30 pounds lighter than I was when this picturer was unceremoniously taken back around the turn of the century! Note that I was able to stand and do things back then, too! That was me putting things back in the cupboard where they belonged. I was approximately 205#. Egads.
That is all I have for you tonight. I am sorry I haven't been posting, but since DH screwed up my computer I can't do my old routine, so I end up playing games after reading blogs. I can't even download most of the books from the library because my Windows partition uses a pirated copy (of Windows) because my real copy was preloaded by Dell on this laptop and they and Microsoft made it so you have to use it their way.

I don't know if you can see it clearly, because obviously I need to do some work reformatting it - cropping and resizing, etc. If you click on it you will get a better image. I used an outline of my hand as my "string." These both were done on the front of a nice quality envelope of which I happened to have a pack laying around (about 4.25x5.75").
What I like about this art form is that it requires absolutely no talent at all! It is so well suited to me, like folk art painting was. But with folk art painting, even though you are working from the patterns of others, technique really does count, so you do have to have some aptitude for it. I'm not so sure about this, though. Time will tell.

Just to think back on warmer days, and share the incredible cuteness that is my Purnima, here she is helping me read my favorite book of last Summer, Ella Minnow Pea. She tries to make sure that no bugs land in my coffee, too. She knows how to earn her keep. And doesn't she have the prettiest blue eyes you've ever seen?

So, Good Night, TTYL and Be Well,

I love your Tangles! I've only done three so far, but these hidden and totally unplanned monsters keep popping up (calling Dr Jung?).
ReplyDeleteBeautiful kitty companion and congrats on the holiday weight-loss. That's a feat.
Donna
your tangles are cool!
ReplyDeletei just started with them... doodling... art... i love it! and that there is no talent involved, well that was a major draw for me ha!
I really enjoyed your post Webster. Those zentangles are neat. I like your first one, especially the little flowers at the bottom. And the hand outline on the second one reminds me of a henna patterned hand.
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice surprise to lose some weight over the holiday! Unfortunately I did not have that kind of a surprise when I finally got back on the Wii board this week. My little Wii Mii plumped right up and the infamous voice, rattled out...you are overweight.
Purnima sure is a pretty cat. She's a gorgeous colour.
Sorry about your computer problems, I am having a few of those myself.
Cheers
I like the Zentangle, even though you think it takes no creativity I think it takes ALOT!! Hope all is well with you!! Gretchen
ReplyDeleteOh my dear Donna, there are always hidden and unplanned monsters popping up; better get used to them. No Dr. Jung needed. Thanks re: the tangles. No congrats earned on the weight loss as I have no idea how it happened!
ReplyDeleteSherri, isn't it nice to be able to draw with no talent required? Major draw? YES!!
Karen, thanks re: the tangles, AND my Purnima. She is such a purty kitty. <y 'puter problems are nothing compared to yours! Maybe you can find someone on E-Bay who can sell you an appropriate grand-mother board. Ha!
Gretchen, when it gets warmer we'll have to meet up for some dim sum. E-mail me at webster@harbornet.com , We'll see what we can come up with; share some zentangles; maybe Diane can join us.
You did a fantastic job on the Tangles. Ahhh, Purnima is a cutie. And total congrats on the weight loss!!
ReplyDeletePeace,
Muff
Wow! I have nooo idea how to do art stuff. I read Sherri too, r there 2 sherries? anyway i can't even doodle--i want to draw cartoons, awful. ur blog looks better too, ur webster---all those pounds, fantastic! and yes, those eyes, i want that cat.
ReplyDeleteI had absolutely no idea what a zentangle was, so I popped over to see what you were posting about. I like them. Now cats, on the other hand, I do know about. And Purnima is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteAwesome tangle! I will grab it for "Mangled Tangles" and list your blog. I will see what I can do as far as size. You had a lot of really cool detail too.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the weight loss! I hate to be the worrywart here but if you truly don't know how you lost that much weight could it be a symptom?
Diane, I'm HM Sherry, Sherri is Sherri! =p
Yes, I read all of what you wrote but the best part was the photo of your Siamese. Add white paws and that's my Jasmine.
ReplyDeletelove your zentangles! so when do we get to see an updated photo of YOU? Isn't weird how a person can miss putting dishes away? I miss grocery shopping and cooking (I used to hate grocery shopping...but miss it now...always loved to cook though...every once in a while with assistance I can make a pot of soup or something...but wow, even that is exhausting!)
ReplyDeleteLaura, there are plenty of pictures of me on my postcard blog but I will try to post one of me soon!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I miss dragging in 20 bags of groceries. And only complaining there was 20 bags, not that I was tired!
I'll reply backwards.
ReplyDeleteSherry, will you be confusing anybody by commenting on comments in other blogs? Or not? LOL
Laurax, don't know when you will see a new picture of me. Something went wrong with the camera when I tried to download those Sentangles and DH hasn't been able to figure it out yet. Maybe next Summer! I've always hated doing the dishes but I loved to cook and bake and I miss those terribly. And since DH hasn't been keeping up with it, I wish I could do the laundry, too.
JC, I knew you'd like the picture of Purnima the best! :) When she was spayed the vet said she was a Himalayan with white feet. Really she comes from a mixed family (HA). Her brother and Mom are gray Tabby, and her Sister is all black with spectacular green eyes. She's the outdoor kitty who gets to come in to sleep on the comfy bed which neither of the other two will touch.
Sherry, thanks for your concern, but I think I just missed a few meals and didn't snack much during the holidays, not that the thought didn't cross my mind. Often my one meal a day was a Healthy Choice or a Lean Cuisine. If DH hadn't messed up my computer I would have cropped them myself, but I can't find anything!
Doug, Yeah, I know cats too, more than Zentangles. But they are fun!
Diane, there are (at least) two Sherrys - Sherri of The Mess That Is My Mind, and Sherry of Have Myelin
You did a great job with the art! Wow you lost weight during the holiday. Sure the computers are needed!
