It Really is Frigid Cold Out There!
Friday, the day of my SG was rainy (in showers) and very windy. It was the day I missed the inurnment ceremony.
Saturday afternoon the temperature took a nosedive into the low 30s daytime and 20s overnight. We had a little snow, but just a little. You could still see the grass.
Sunday morning brought snow, big fluffy flakes of snow in the early afternoon, but a friend whom I haven't seen in two years was in town and wanted to get together for coffee. So we decided to meet at Panera, a bread, sandwich, pastry and coffee shop. Since it was snowing and the streets were covered with black ice, DH decided he was driving and came along. That was good thinking on his part, because I wasn't thinking about the driving conditions at all, and surely would have gone too fast or done something really stupid and crashed the car, or worse yet, crashed into somebody's car. We had a pleasant visit which didn't last long enough, as she is headed back to Yakima Monday morning. She's home by now experiencing 1 degree tonight. That's way too cold for my blood.
Temperature today was 63 in the house, because DH went out to get wood at the shop where we get free wood for burning, and hadn't lit a fire for hours. So first thing, I took a shower, because nothing warms me up like hot water. It's a lasting warmth; It weakens me a little bit, but that doesn't last long. I really wish I could take a warm bath - but I could never get out of the tub! I'd end up stuck in there while I turned into a prune.
Anyway, he's been building fires regularly all evening and we can't get the temperature up to 70! Usually after three fires it's 74 in the living room and comfortable in the dining room and kitchen. The fireplace heat doesn't turn the corner and go back into the bedrooms. That's what space heaters, down comforters and electric throws were made for!
I got a nice surprise today; a friend dropped off a Christmas gift for me - a quarter-zip red fleece top with an appliqued design and a turtleneck sweater to wear with it. It fits, and it's warm, and it's my color: blood red. I imagine I'll be wearing it a lot, as this very cold weather is expected to hang around, possibly through Christmas.
But my feet are cold, and I don't own any Winter shoes. My tootsies have gotten bigger. I always, ever, wore a 7 1/2 M until last year, when all of a sudden I needed an 8 W, maybe even an 8 1/2! I'm seriously thinking of taking some of the money I've been squirreling away for a new mattress to buy new slippers and Winter shoes. After all, I spend more time in my shoes than I do in bed.
Good Night, TTYL and Be Well
I feel your pain (and cold), literally!
