Pics of my patio
As promised, here are some photos Hubs took about a year ago of the patio and back yard. These are the adirondack chairs my Dad made for us so many years ago. The Fuchsia and Begonia wintered over, but due to the cold spring they are coming on much slower this year.
These pots in the corner? Mostly empty of blooms this year, save for some Dianthus and Snaps that came up.
Back to the table where I usually enjoy coffee and reading and sunshine. The blue Salvia in the whale pot is blooming this year.
Behind the table is the above ground pond with the two water lilies that I showed you yesterday. And a little bit more to the right are some more pots. This year one has white snaps that came up, but that's about it except for a few weeds. Oh - Meet Beulah, our old blind Basset Hound. She has a bad habit of eating our annuals - she's sniffing out a snack for later (after dark) here.
And even more to the right, behind the pots is our small pond.
The lady planter on the wall was a wedding gift - 21 years ago!
These guys are blooming this year.
Just above and behind it sits a concrete bowl with a very simple fountain that drains into the sunken bathtub that makes up the pond. The sound of the splash is quite pleasant. We put cheap goldfish in both ponds and gave them places to hide from the occasional visit from a raccoon, or a bad kitty. Even so, there have been a few fatalities. The tree on the right is a golden chain tree; it is being destroyed and depleted by snails again this year. Funny the raccoons don't gorge themselves on the snails instead of raiding the pond. I'm thinking that the chain tree has toxins and makes the snails unpalatable.
If you turn once again to the right this is your view. Back door to the house on the right, garage door to the left and straight ahead is the gate to the back yard. The small pond is just behind the protective row of pots on the left. The cosmos in the yellow pot ant the chrysanthemum on the right were last year's blooms. This year there is nothing there. That is my "outdoors" walker behind the pot. Purnima likes to sit on the seat because she stays dry under the eave.
If you go through the garden gate and go behind the garage to the end of the back yard, there is a small vegetable garden. Looking down from the garage roof you can see last year's beans, squash, and tomatoes. That white roof is over the back covered patio which I haven't been able to reach for about three years because a ladder blocks the way of my walker. also the white swing you see is no longer useful because one of the support posts rotted (notice that the right one is leaning). It's replacement is Waaay down the list of things that need to be done around here.
So, that's it for the tour of last year's patio. Aren't you proud of me that I didn't go into full rant mode about all that didn't get done this year?
And while I'm at it, here's a picture of my kitties when they were little, about two months after we found them. Raja is the grey tabby, Purnima is the Himalayan with white feet, and Nishita is the black one with lovely green eyes.
Goodnight, TTYL and Be well.
