Getting a chair!!
My brother likes to wheel and deal; it's just the way he rolls. So when a neighbor of his expressed an interest in buying his old pickup truck, he said, "So what do you have to trade?" It turns out this guy has a wheelchair (brand unknown) that he says is worth about $50000.00 and he offered up that. My brother took him up on it and it will be brought over to me on Saturday. I don't know his story behind the wheelchair, but I will find out some of the background then.
I have no idea how old it is, just that it is an electric chair and has some super-duper type batteries and will go up hills with no problem. I HOPE it will fit my rather large butt comfortably, and will work out well for me. If not, as my brother says, I can always sell it.
As for the Quantum Edge -- It is still is review by the insurance company, and I'm not due to have a response until July 3. I looked over the paperwork that was sent in by my PT and my PCP, and things have changed with me since they were submitted. My PT indicated that I was able to stand, which I could do in December, but alas, no more. And my PCP mentioned that I used a walker!? Yes I went to my appointment on my walker, but she did not see me walk with it, nor stand behind it. My husband pushed me on it from the parking lot to the appointment because it was quick and we were running late. So I don't know how this is going to affect the insurance company's decision. If I DO get approval, I will have two chairs, one which I know I can use inside my house. If I don't get approval, I will have to go through an appeals process, and wait for however long that takes.
If I am LUCKY ("Do you feel lucky, Kid? Well, Do ya?"), I will end up with two chairs that I can use both inside and outside the house, and get them in time to enjoy the Summer weather. Then, all I have to do is bug DH to fix the truck so we can actually go places with it. Fingers crossed.
Good Night, TTYL, and Be Well,

P.S. Wouldn't it be the bomb if they were BOTH Quantums?

Fingers and toes tightly crossed that the world turns as it should for you.
ReplyDeleteThank you. One can only hope. :-)
DeleteYay! Two chairs would be great! Need them for different things to speed around. So sorry about your standing and walking. I can walk again some with walker but if I did not use my chair, talk about being tired!
ReplyDeleteThis one that was gifted to me is a little big; I'm barely able to get around the house in it! Outside, I think it will be good, though. I'm not quite sure about how long the battery lasts Guess I better start with short trips!
DeleteI will keep my fingers crossed for you. Would it do any good to contact the people who gave incorrect information about you walking/standing and tell them they need to amend their reports?
ReplyDeleteI was supposed to hear by today. Will do what you suggest if I need to, I guess. I certainly will have them make sure what they say if I have to appeal.
DeleteOh, I do hope your request is granted! But aren't you extremely fortunate to get that used one! Fingers crossed that all goes well.
ReplyDeleteYes, the used one is a Jazzy 600. It is clumsy inside the house, but should serve me well outside. If not, I can always sell it on Craig's list to help me pay for the new one!
DeleteI hope you get your chair.
ReplyDeleteThanks, JC. Now I have to get DH to fix his truck so we can take it places.
DeleteWOW a $50000.00 chair!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteIt is a 5 year old Jazzy 600. I would have to do some research on that figure - but it may indeed be worth that.
DeleteA $50k chair is a LOT of chair. The list cost for Skip's was $26k and it has tilt, recline, leg lift and the whole seat raises up about a foot. Maybe it has the ability to stand you up ... I assume those chairs are very expensive.
ReplyDeleteSuch ignorance from the doc and especially the PT. The PT is supposed to write up something that will really make your case. Well, if it's denied, you can work with the PT and the doc to get the content corrected.
Good luck on both chair fronts!
Cranky it's estimated worth at 5 years old is $5000. A Jazzy 600. It tilts a little manually, but none of the rest. The One I want to get, and am waiting for, is a Quantum Edge 6000, and my PT recommended it because of the tilt feature; it also reclines and knows how to dance! I want it, I want it, I want it. Should hear SOON! But - I imagine I will have to appeal, as I have gotten worse since this process began.
ReplyDeleteNow I just need a new roof, and a bathroom remodel, a w/c van, and ... well, you get the idea...
Thanks for all of your comments. Now I must read the Law of Attraction and put its premise to good use. Enjoy Summer, wherever you may be!
