What I do most days

Every day, first I read my blogs, living vicariously through them, then I watch TV on my computer on Tubeplus or on 1channel. Often, this way I see programs that have not yet been aired on American TV;  therefore, I have already seen all of Downton Abbey and Mr. Selfridge. And I anxiously await the return of both.

Mr. Selfridge is about an American entrepreneur living in London in 1908 who starts up the very first department store, Selfridge. Main character is played by Jeremy Piven, who I love, and the cast and music are indulgent. [Note to Muff, you will love it - every bit as much as Downton Abbey! Same time period, I believe; Edwardian England.]

So, I am coming clean, I have to admit it: I am a TV junkie.

Don't judge me.

The rest of TV that takes up my time is a mix between BBC, Australian, and American TV shows. I must admit that many American TV series pale in comparison to the English, but not all. For instance, I LOVE Grey's Anatomy(ABC); still going after all these years. It has had its growing pains, but I think it is back on top this season.

Another I like is Castle (ABC). It is endearingly watchable as only a murder mystery can be. I like Body of Proof (ABC), and The Good Wife (NBC). I have missed a few episodes of the last two, but am back to watching them regularly.

I also like Project Runway (Bravo); it is a guilty pleasure, and I admit to having missed several seasons before this current one. I have no clear favorite, and only one cast member stays in my memory: Santino. Season three?  He cracked me up. He was a finalist, but no, he didn't win. That show has made Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn household names.

Another reality show that I like is The Biggest Loser (NBC). I usually sit and watch, sometimes while eating potato chips, knowing I can't POSSIBLY do the exercise that go along with the healthy eating that gets the results that I see on the show - - but still I watch, and root for the contestants.

Other shows that I watch are dramas or mysteries, typically. I just finished a five-part production of Lightfields ( ITV-UK). which I enjoyed very much. It tied up most of the loose ends, except what happens next with the main characters. Another series, I suppose.

I like Shetland (BBC). a Scottish murder mystery, and Broadchurch, an English murder mystery, and Top of the Lake (New Zealand), the disappearance of a daughter of a local drug lord. Similarities? Sure. Most of the "victims" are 12. Was it suicide? Murder? An accident?  I'll have to wait and see.

I also like Bomb Girls (CTV), a Canadian program that tells the story of the women who worked in a bomb factory during WWII. Call the Midwife (PBS) set in London in the 1950's about a woman who becomes a midwife and works alongside nuns in Londen's East end.

I guess the latest that I am caught up in is Touch (FOX), starring Kiefer Sutherland. It is a riveting drama that focuses on "The 36" of which his autistic son is one; individuals with special gifts that could potentially save the world, and the corporation that would like to harness their powers. In many ways it has a "24" feel to it: a sense of urgency, of desperation. Still it is interesting, and I admit that I am hooked.

So that's about it for my TV viewing. I'm almost embarrassed that I watch so much, but in my defense, I haven't been able to download books from the library because I needed to go in to renew my card. Now that I have done so, and Summer is on its way, I suspect I will be reading more than watching. Once this last TV season has ended, of course.

Good Night, TTYL, and Be Well,

Oh yeah, and there is Mr and Mrs Murder (ch. 10 Australia), about a married couple who are crime scene clean-up crew, and who solve the murders on the side. It hsas a real comedic flair to it.

  1. Not a television fan. We didn't get one till quite late and I never acquired the habit. Mr and Mrs Murder sounds interesting though. And 'crime scene clean-up crew'? Now that would be an awful and often difficult job. If it needs cleaning up I am thinking blood at a minimum. Eeeeuw.

  2. I am not, nor ever have been a TV watcher. I was never a watcher, more of a doer. Funny, you say "don't judge me" as far as being a TV junkie...most people think I am a complete weirdo and judge me because I don't watch TV, or movies!!

  3. Wow! You should be a TV critic -- I learned a lot here. After I questioned Mr. Selfridge, I saw a commercial for it. I'll try to get caught up on it (and IN it!) BTW, Body of Proof is set in Philadelphia, just across the bridge from me, and the scenes and place names are so familiar to me.
    Peace,

  4. Hi - I just got in to Downton Abbey - love it! n Seson 2 now - Also, we love Shameless, The Following and SVU & Revenge. I also read alot, go outside for some natural Vitamin D and we love happy hour to have some wine and snacks mostly on Fridays. We go for rides and visit friends and family a few times a month and go for ice-cream. We love to cook together and enhance with a good wine - we live simply, peacefully, we share what we have and we play music alot. Skipp is a singer-songwriter, seasoned guitarist and pianist - I play drums and sing harmony. Music is out hing. HAppy SPring

  7. No shame in being a TV junkie. I really like to watch TV too, but MR OP usually has the remote and we don't agree on too many programs.

    Can't wait for Downton either!

  8. TV: I turn it on at 3-5AM, Imus, CNN, News, MSNBC, I am a surfer/taper, multi TV tasker. I was given a birthday gift of free HOB/SHOWTIME for a week. OMG, I got hooked on GIRLS (written directed starring this 20-something--MY DREAM) and Homeland. Poof, ended at 9PM mid line. Can't afford it. I tape Castle. Bones, but for me it's the romance. I laugh at Modern Family, The Middle (takes place in my small town Indiana), Raising Hope. GREY'S ANATOMY, I watch alone in the dark and no one must speak during it. Scandal, Elementary ( a yawner), The Good Wife (zzzzz) Downton Abbey (YEA! Maggie my Maggie)---I am checking out my Lily Tomlin in Malibu Country. I wanted to be an actress, so I watch a lot of stuff. I would love to write a series. For Fun: Grey's and Police Women of ____. OH, and I love Whitney. Romance, relationships. Karenlee loves Person of Interest, she is certain WE are being spied on. She is a voracious reader. I am writing 75% of my days. I am afraid blogs have taken a back seat...I feel bad about that.

  9. No judging here! When I heard so many people raving about The Walking Dead, I caved and ordered it on Netflix. I then proceeded to watch Seasons 1 - 3 in about two days! The show just went on break; have to wait until October. [sobbing]

  10. Wow you have a large array of TV shows to watch. I am addicted to TV also...I want to read more though

  11. Well, then. another Blogger glitch - won't let me reply to each comment after the first one. I'll show them; there's more than one way to....

@Karen, you probably get more done in your days that way. More power to you.

@Muff, Philly is a pretty city. I enjoy seeing Seattle in the occasional show or movie. I used to live a block or so away from the houseboat in Sleepless in Seattle!

@Gail, I wish DH and I did more things together, but... we don't. I see that YouTube has removed Shameless due to copyright infringement; I'll look elsewhere. The Following sounds grisly. I'll pass.

@Kmilyun, I don't have an X-box; even Wii came out about two years after I could make good use of it. I tend to read more during the Summer.

@Leann, If I had to watch what DH watches I'd scream. I watch my computer screen in the dining room and he watches his in the living room. Works for us.

@Diane, if you go to either of my links above you will be able to get Homeland, and at least some episodes of Girls. I like the feeds from Putlocker and Sockshare, and vidbux and 180upload the best.

@Ms. Crankypants, though it doesn't sound like my thing, I'll have to check out an episode of the Walking Dead. If I get hooked on zombies, I will hold you personally responsible. I hate it when they put the shows on long hiatuses. Network was on for just one season when they put in on break for a year! Counting down to June for its return.

@Kim. I know - it's really a lot of TV viewing, isn't it? And I know I missed several (Monday Mornings comes to mind - new hospital drama by David E Kelley). And I want to do more reading as well! You should see my list of books to check out!!!

    Thanks everyone for your comments!!
