My home seems empty
Dare I say it? I actually kind of miss the dear little Vampire skull that has been looking at me from across the room for more than a year [or has it been two?]. The mobile with skeletons tied onto a branch and dancing from its limbs is gone, as is the Spider Web mobile with pumpkins, ghosts, and a kitchen witch hanging from the center -- gone. All packed away, leaving my living room a bit sad and empty after all this time spent together. Will I want to see them again next year? Yeah. Probably. Now on the door is a festive Fall/Winter wreathe made from twigs and little red berries. It looks lovely unadorned, yet lovely in its simplicity.
My art supplies arrived! WooHoo! Three different sets of Sakura pens, including a Pigma Micron set, Micron colors, and set of Glaze pens which are really fun. I also got my new drawing pads and grid pad for my patterns. I am setting up a class with a CZT to take place in Tacoma the day after Thanksgiving. I have interested seven members from my service group and reserved a room in a quaint coffee shop in Fircrest.
I'm getting excited; it should be fun. I'm hoping it will teach me how to bring all I have learned on my own on-line into cohesion.
Here's a place to go shop for a lovely, inexpensive handmade Christmas ornaments, Cheaper Than Therapy has wonderful ornaments for sale. Here, Let me put it in her words,
As my long-time blog friends know, a few years ago I started a collaborative craft studio for adults who have developmental disabilities or mental illnesses (and for family caregivers).
It started out as an informal endeavor for art therapy in my dining room, and expanded to an actual business.
First we sold our Christmas creations online, and last year we sold in three venues plus from our website. "
and "We accept no grants or government funding.
The philosophy behind this project?
There is dignity in producing something useful or beautiful. There is dignity in being able to produce something that is lovely and saleable on its own without having to be subsidized because of a perceived disabled condition.
I'll let you guys know when our website has been updated.
Hopefully you'll find something beautiful there that you just have to have this holiday season!"
So, go pay a visit, and if you like, buy an ornament. It's for a good cause.
Good Night, TTYL. and Be Well.

It won't be long before I'll be getting out my decorating items for the holidays. It is a chore setting up the displays, but it is a nice change of pace from the everyday look.
ReplyDeleteYou mean I am suppose to take all the green, red, silver, and gold whatnots out of the boxes and decorate? can't I just get one of those little foot tall plug in trees at the dollar store?
ReplyDeleteI just got them all put away.
Have fun with the supplies.
Don't hate me, but we are putting up (our friend is putting up) our Christmas tree TODAY! Karenlee has finished our cards. I made a book for my mom. Producing beauty and sharing it---should be an every day event!
ReplyDeleteYou are awesome! And I don't decorate except for Christmas anymore, the kids just don't seem to care and well, why decorate for just me? I appreciate not having to put it all away more than I appreciate having it to look at for a week or two. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful program you started. I plan to visit the site and feel certain I will find something I just have to have.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for visiting my blog recently. I will have my husband get the Disability Workbook. Thanks again.
Kelli
I will feel empty after Christmas...Do not have any decorations yet.
ReplyDeleteYou will have fun with your art!
i don't decorate... i love putting them up, i love the feel of the little house when it's all warm and fuzzy with holiday goodies... but then january comes... and i have to take the blasted things down...
ReplyDeleteso i put on my red/white stripped socks and call me decorated ha!
ok, let's see the art! i'm jealous that you are getting a class all organized... i tried to do that and gained absolutely no interest ... and then the CZT in this area decided she wasn't going to be teaching classes! of all the nerve!
Thanks so much for the mention. We all really appreciate it!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comments, everyone. I used to love to decorate for the holidays, but these days I am just not able to. I have to cajole DH into it, and I love it when he complies. He is truly artistic, though the depression compromises that in him. Alas. But I understand about having to (bleaugh) put everything away afterwards; it can be daunting. But I remember the days when I could do it... and I especially loved decorating a 7' Noble fir every year. I look around now and wonder wherever did we find the room for it?
ReplyDeleteKelli, good luck with your husband's disability claim. I hope the book is helpful to you.
Attila, the ornaments arrived safe and sound, and they are as lovely as represented on your site. I think $7 each is a fair price and hope you have a fantastic season with lots of sales.
Good for you! =) I'm glad to hear of this. Are you going to be posting some of your endeavors online? I want to see.....yes I dooooo....
ReplyDeleteI'm with you, my living room looks a little sad without the holiday decorations.
ReplyDeleteAnd speaking of decorations, stop by-- I'm giving away one of Attila's fabulous ornaments along with a $50 gift card. Since you've already blogged about her great organization, please go ahead and leave the extra comments/entries for spreading the word.
Cheers, jj
