Hell if I know

For some reason, whenever I think if writing an entry all of my witty ideas and pithy remarks leave my brain for parts unknown. Trust me, I haven't forgotten about you - I've just, well, forgotten.

So what's new with me? The weekend of the 20-23rd of May was our State Convention. I was going to room with a sister, but as fate would have it, her husband flew down to Arizona to interview for a job, and he got it. No waiting for two weeks, no checking other candidates, just a "when can you start?"

His main purpose for interviewing in Arizona was to be close to his Mom, who was very ill with cancer; So he sets up the interview, flies down for it, stops in to see his Mom, comes back  home, gets the job, and they have to move right away so they're busy packing etc., and he gets a call from his brother telling him that Mom has taken a turn for the worse. Turns out that she died three hours before they got there. Sucks for them. Sucks for me, too,  because now I have no roommate and it's too late to cancel the room, and I have to suck up the $260 on my Visa, instead of half that.

Given the way I felt from the walk from my car to the front desk in the lobby, maybe 100 feet, I knew it was going to be a wheelchair weekend. There would be no toughing it out for me, N'uh uh. So I found some help and got my stuff to my room and went to my post to check folks in at convention registration. Friday night was Candidate's fair with a theme of "Bridges of the World" and we had tidbits to share from the respective countries, plus a light catered dinner. Saturday AM was 1st general assembly, followed by a catered Awards Luncheon, then Saturday PM was Installation of State Officers. We even had a 16 piece Swing band play -(for free! and some spaghetti dinner), so there was dancing, and since the hotel had no restaurant or lounge, we were able to sell tickets for beverages, like water, pop, and wine and beer (without a liquor licence). $2.50 tickets for two 5 oz. glasses of wine. I had four, and yes, I took my chair out on the dance floor and did something - I'm not sure what - but it was fun. Then on Sunday we had our 2nd general assembly and it was time to cross back over the Narrows Bridge and DO NOT FORGET TO PAY THE TOLL. I completely crashed (me, not the car,)  once I got home.

So, yippee yahoo. Before that weekend I went shopping for a light Spring Jacket, and a couple new tops, and a nightgown, and since trying on stuff at stores is a royal pain in the ass, I brought them home to try on. I spent, like $102 at T.J. Maxx (returned $84), and another $175 at Ross (returned $123). Out of 20 items, I ended up keeping five, and putting just $70 on the card, and returned the rest on the 30th day. Talk about cutting it close.

Tonight, I had a Chapter Board Meeting, (remember, I'm President) to get a sense of what we're planning to do for the year, and some good ideas were proposed. Since we have decided not to sell pre-made pizzas this year, we have to come up with new fund raising ideas. We're going to sell a local coffee roaster's coffee for $10/# of which we'll get $2, so we're guessing we can make maybe $200 from that. We'll keep the yard sale which make $1500 last year. We need to make another $1000 or so. Does anyone have an idea? It was suggested we partner up with Krispy Kreme and sell their punch cards, but I don't think selling greasy heart attacks is such a great idea. Maybe it's just me.

OH, and My neuro wants me to have an MRI, but I still haven't heard from his office  coordinator. I should give her a call, don't you think? I've been ealking worse since the two weeks after Convention, to the point that I've been using both crutches in the house, which is a royal pain in the ass. I know, get on it - point is, I just don't feel like a roll in the tube. Such a pain in the ass. Oh well. I'll call.

Oh, I finished The Good Earth by Pearl Buck. What a great book that is!  I started Anthropology of an American Girl by Nancy Thayer Hammond(?) and so far the language is so flowery I don't think I'm going to make it very far.

So, next on my TO DO  list is to write an Incoming Speech as new president. Why I chose my theme "Kindred Spirits - Forever Friends," and my goals for the year, and blah, blah to the blah. Can you tell I'm the gung ho leadership type woman?

Good Night, TTYL, and Be Well,

  1. you have been quite busy! the convention sounds as if it was a grand time...

i used to attend conventions with my grandmother... she was president of her sorority alum and they had huge conventions every other summer...big travel, extravagant gowns, unbelievable meals... i miss those days...

mris... i hate them... i'm "due" for one in a few months but i just don't see the point really... if things are the same, great... if things are different, so what? is it going to change my treatment - no... is it going to change how i feel - no... is it going to change ANYTHING at all - NO.... i have opted for the occasional mri just to see if the meds are working...but the absence of relapse is just as good a measure in my mind...

anywho, glad you are home... hope the walking gets a bit better with some rest...

    take care of you!
