It's Spring, right?

According to the calendar it's Spring. When I take a look outside I see shoots coming up in the garden through the weeds. Our few daffodils are blooming. But one thing is missing -- some heat. I swear, this is the coldest Spring I can remember. It's rainy, breezy, and chilly even when we have had a sunny day. I haven't even been tempted to sit outside, even with a coat and hat on. So, with that in mind, I am having some serious doubts about whether I want to go to the MS Walk on Saturday morning or not. Keep in mind that I would be using my wheelchair, and probably being pushed most of the time; if it does start to rain, I'll be a sitting duck! [amended 4/5: I ended up not going to the walk, but meeting some of my friends afterward for lunch. By then it had stopped raining.]

Had one hell of a time getting there, though. It was not a "good" day. I decided to not take my purse, and just take my coin purse and small wallet with my  driver's license. I walk out to the garage using one crutch as is my  pattern, and grabbed the garage door opener from inside and opened it, and went around to get into the car and I found that my keys weren't in my coat pocket. So I walked back into the back yard to call for DH to bring me my keys, which he did. Then I went back to the car and I couldn't get my key to work. Realize, I was standing or walking this whole time and I was about to collapse (!) so I went back into the garage to sit in the truck for a few minutes to rest. I managed to get the passenger door open and used my crutch to reach across and open the lock on the other side. Whew. All this to explain why it took me 35 minutes to get to the restaurant instead of at least half that time. But it was worth it - lunch was nice.

So here I am with so many important things to do that my brain has completely turned to mush. I have been wrangled into going ahead and running for Sorority president which I had decided  not to do. But I had to chair a meeting last month, which is usually one of the longer meetings of our year, and I apparently kept it moving right along so we finished at a decent time, and so I was commended for my "great job." So, what I have to do now is get together a list of people to run for offices next year. Yeah. Wish me luck on that one. Nobody, it seems, wants to commit to anything anymore.

Next, I absolutely have to go grocery shopping. We're out of milk. Again. And DH has not stepped up to go to the store. It seems I will have to accompany him. Flip side of that is I will pick up some of my favorite molasses cookies, and some chocolate ice cream. That almost makes it worth the effort.

Don't know if I've mentioned it, but I have started crocheting an "heirloom" afghan, with each of 63 squares using a different pattern stitch. I have been doing a  lot of ripping out; I guess that's how you learn. I forgot to measure one, the half double crochet, until after it was finished and looking good. It turns out I need to do it over with a smaller hook as it is an inch too large. Oops. Must remember to check the gauge with every new stitch, I guess. I also had to rip out the two squares I made with this variegated color; it was pretty, but didn't blend well with my two pinks and lavender. I'll  likely end up doing all of the edging and connecting work in the lavender, too. We'll see.

Also, it's taking me a seemingly long time to make my zentangle work look decent. I see that my hands are not as steady as they used to be back when I did folk art painting. Sure, that pen and ink work was tracing, but my hand was much steadier than it is now. And my wobbles aren't shaky, but random. This MS stuff sucks. It may be a problem with my ON that compounds it, too. But I'll keep working at it. I can only get better.

So, Good Night, TTYL, and Be Well,

  1. Woohoo, you're still making tangles and crocheting! =) Fantastic.

BTW I so love molasses cookies. Especially with a tall glass of very, very cold milk!!!

  2. I think Spring is lost somewhere hope Spring finds us before summer hits. I like to cooler temps but the overcast days are getting to me.

Getting ready to go somewhere should not be such a pain in the arse. My nemesis is losing something like the keys. Looking upstairs, downstairs, back upstairs, by the time I find them I do not want to go anywhere.

The afghan - want to see a picture!
zentangles - I gave up LOL

The milk - I am hoping KRP picks some up on the way home.

  3. Webster, don't you think sometimes our antics with MS would make a good sitcom? I laughed about how you got pushed into heading something -- same here. I've handed in my resignation after 5 years -- I need a break. Good luck with the afghan -- do you also knit? There's a beautiful pattern for a knitted afghan with each square different also, but it's all in the same color. I can't knit or crochet anymore -- my hand is shot.
    Peace,
    Muff

  4. @Sherry - I haven't splurged on any tangle blocks, but I practice on a 6x8 Strathmore drawing pad. I had some micron pens upstairs that were low on ink, and 2 of them were .005 lol, I use them to stipple some shading or drawing grass. I did buy Totally Tangled and was disappointed at first, but it has grown on me. What can I say? I think the author is a little too right brained, and the book reflects that. But I have added tangle supplies (Yoga for the Brain, watercolor pencils and Tangle in Color) on my Amazon wish list. So when the funds are available at the end of some month I'll get those too. I really enjoy zentangle, and I think I'll take in my book and pad into Michaels to educate them on what they are missing. Perhaps they will send one of their "teachers" to get certified! Or at the least, stock the supplies. I also buy my yarn there, so maybe they'll remember me.

As for the molasses cookies, I have mine with coffee. ;)

@Jan - Where oh where has our lovely Spring gone? Where oh where can it be? Another week of temps in the high 40s, rain for the last six weeks, minus a day here and there. To wit, today this morning and early afternoon were stunningly bright, and then, in a flash the rain returned.

I think getting ready to go anywhere is a pain in the ass, and though I hate to think of it, I really think I'm going downhill. Am even willing to revisit the DMDs discussion with my neuro next month if the exam shows I have lost abilities.

Still no milk, can you believe it?

@Muff - I seem to recall a little Muffet comment about the subject that went something like this: "When you know better, you do better." Ahem. Aand I hope you're right. I am lining up a pretty good group of people to hold key positions, and I am being very up front about my own concerns regarding my lack of ability to remember what book I just read, or what y9u might have said to me ten minutes ago (especially if there were three other conversations going on in the vicinity). I'm not raggin' on you Muff, just sayin' - what you told me was hopefully right and this time around I will do better. I didn't gather together a nominating committee this time either, but I have been asking for suggestions and feedback from each person I call.

Heck, I even noticed that our Mother's Day Luncheon which always happens the Saturday before has been scheduled for the week after MD. It might have been a typo, but here's the thing - the first weekend in May is the also opening of boating season, and several of our members belong to yacht clubs and are participating in the parade of boats in Seattle. Frankly I told the person in charge that if it is on the later date "Oh Well!", because it actually works better for a lot of our members.

Last year when I decided to learn to knit, I went to this shop and asked for some help from a knitting lunch bunch there. I found that casting on required a lot more dexterity than I have, alas, and holding two implements and managing the yarn was just too much for me. So I don't knit - but I have a nearly new pair of bamboo needles to show for my effort.

So far I can manage one crochet hook, though I'm not fast, and thats okay.

Probably no pictures because my camera is stuck. Something happened when I tried to get my pics onto my 'puter.

Heck, people, I should have put up a new post to answer your comments!

  5. It's still snowing here...two days of it. I have given up on spring. I wish I could knit or crochet, I never could, even before the MS. It's a hand co-ordination thing. The cookies sound good, AND chocolate ice cream. Yummmmmmmm.
    Cheers

  6. Spring, spring?! Gads, I was downtown Seattle yesterday at the docs, which is a big, big day for me, and the wind coming up from the water was blowing me all over the sidewalk. The cane wasn't much help. We have lots of puddles and standing water in the neighborhood too.

Ditto on requesting pics of the afghan. I too bought some Zentangling stuff. It is very right-brained. We're not supposed to trying to draw something, no planning, just zoning out with a repetitive pattern, no rules. However, those are rules to me. I think I'll play with it some more.

Good luck on your reluctant leadership endeavors.

    Donna

  7. what brand camera? did you use the cord or a card reader to try and get photos off the camera? sometimes if you do not format the card every so often in the camera they will get all nutted up.

Many folks here are having a tough go of it right now. Too many so we decided it was all the weather changes - the change in pressure messing us up - who knows but gotta be something for so many of us to be going backwards all at once.

I finally got a battery into the roller ball mouse thingy - well I broke down and asked KRP to do it!

Got milk? who knew the ad would be so appropriate for us. We did get milk. Tell DH to get you some dang MILK!
