Reading Update
Oops, I haven't been keeping up to date with my reading list. I just checked and I left off with The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo in October. Since then I have been reading these gems.
After that I started Ken Follett's new book Fall of Giants.

I had to return it to the digital library before I was done, so now I have to wait (I am #2 in line) to finish it. I forgot to write down which chapter in was on so I'll probably end up doing a little backtracking - but that's okay. It is an interesting look at England and Germany pre- and during WWI. This is also going to be a series, so shall be an interesting history lesson.
Also, in November, I finished The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest - book two in the Millennium Series by Stieg Larsson.
and am currently smack dab in the middle of book three:
which is a real page turner, or would be if digital books had pages.
So, my reading has slowed down just a little, but the reading material is a bit more substantial, I think.
I also picked up several Poe books from the library for Halloween, and the one the librarian found me in the young adults section was such a lovely book I found a copy on Amazon used books for $1.25 + S&H. It's a lovely little hardback with several of the classic scary stories. What made me actually want to own it was the beautiful color illustrations that filled the pages.
I can see it being pulled off the shelf each October to help set the mood for Halloween. I am such a person as that.
In the Pacific Northwest we have been hit with a Pineapple Express - a lovely mega rain producing weather pattern which comes to us straight from Hawaii, and is common in El Nino years. In other words, you'd better hope you don't live near a river or in front of an unstable hillside. Flooding is prevalent and landslides are common. Amtrak is closed in two places along the route from Portland OR to Bellingham WA. It should be running by Tuesday, but it's just another inconvenience of out rainy weather. At least it's fairly warm with the temp hovering around 50F during the day and 40F at night.
Still, I'd rather get the rain than the 18" of snow that the Twin cities got this weekend. Sure, they're used to it, just like we're used to the rain, but a foot and a half in a day and a half is a bit much, don'cha think?
Who is having pleasant weather now? Actually, since I don't live in a flood prone area, it's just a lot of rain to me. Doesn't seem all that unusual, to tell the truth. Who else is having weird weather? Let me know.

Good Night, TTYL and Be well
PS. I'm sorry about the book graphics; they disappeared after DH switched me over to the Linux OS from Windows XP. I'm still getting used to it, but I must say, the computer fan doesn't come on as much as it used to. I'm thinking that's a good thing,

Hi Webster,
ReplyDeleteI just downloaded the first book from the Millennium Series. It's not the kind of book I usually read, but I'll give it a go.
We are still getting snow...more, as if 3 feet isn't enough. Oh well...jingle bells.
Cheers
Your rain sounds like a welcome relief from the bitter cold and snow we are receiving here in Illinois. It does make for good reading weather though and that is what I have been doing a lot of lately. I tried reading the Stieg Larsson books, but could not keep up my interest. I am reading John Grisham's new book right now.
ReplyDeleteHi Webster,
ReplyDeleteI've been having weird weather but at least it's weird in a good way. It's been 80-degrees and clear the past couple of days ... very summer-like. I hope it lasts!
Best,
Marty
Are weather has been off here too. Winter came too early! I am forgetting what the sun feels like.
ReplyDeleteI almost bought the The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo at Borders but decided to wait till I find it at the Goodwill or maybe use my used book store credits when they get it in.
I am reading a no brain required right now.
The news reports the other night do show you all floating away hey hey - my relatives live off Puegot sound and there huge ( I kid you not ) home has almost gone down the side of few times - so far I have not heard that they are in any danger of this right now but keep my fingers crossed for em.
hope your drying out there now?
Karen, sometimes we've just gotta step out of our routines. I hope you end up liking the book. It's full of, um, surprises.
ReplyDeleteWith that much snow, what better to do than curl up with a book?
Rae, I'm surprised Larsson couldn't hold your interest. I haven't read Grisham in years. I guess I have some catching up to do.
Marty, I'd take 80 degrees even in the Summer! Ha.
Jan, the Millennium series is so popular I'm sure it will show up in the used book stores and thrift stores soon.
Where the weather made the news was North of me where the rivers are overflowing their banks. I will never buy riverfront property, even if I win the lottery.
Whereabouts on Puget Sound do your people live?
One set Des Moines/Kent the other Edmonds.
ReplyDeleteNow we have cold, rainy, and windy here. last comment it was just chilly and overcast.
Glad you are reading, I should more. Yes weather is weird, freezing for us.
ReplyDeletekim
Seattle seems fairly normal, except for that Nov. snow mess, and it IS a bit too cold at night, but we have it easy. (so far)
ReplyDeleteI like non-fiction. Finished Portia De Rossi's book and am about done with Prince William. The Royals still grab me. The whole Diana thing will always be with me, just like JFK.
we are....super cold here, but only tiny flakes and no snow on the ground...not typical for NH this time of year!!!
ReplyDeleteThe Pineapple Express? LOL Love the name!
ReplyDeleteIt's raining buckets here in Los Angeles-- BUCKETS! Like about 5 inches over the weekend and it's still raining. No flooding in my neighborhood but I did see several trees uprooted and a lot of crazy drivers who aren't used to the rain. Ugh, but it's waaaaay better than snow.
ReplyDeleteI'm on the 3rd book of the Dragon Tattoo series. I'm enjoying them very much.
Hope you're ready for a fabulous Christmas. Enjoy, jj
I just got a Kindle for my birthday and am learning the ropes. I love it!
ReplyDeleteWestern Colorado is getting slammed by snow but where I am, zip, zadda, nadda. In fact it's to be around 55.
I'm not worried...I have a feeling a big one is around the corner here.
Have you read "Blink"? It's pretty good but non-fiction.
bright blessings to you and your beloveds Webster!
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas, Happy Holidays, . ... which ever you prefer!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year Webster!!!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year Webster!
ReplyDeleteKeep the book suggestions coming...I just download Kindle from Amazon onto my computer. I thought I try it that way before I purchase the Kindle :)
