I'm back!

It's been two and a half weeks since I've posted and did I miss it? Sorry, but not really. I've been keeping up with my blog reading, and listening to World Without End by Ken Follett ( Damn, he's long winded -- 45 hours of listening!), which I actually enjoyed. Who enjoys a book about 14th Century lustful relationships and treachery amidst the plague? Apparently- me. I love historical fiction.

While I listen, I crochet. I do that somewhat slowly, or else it's just this pattern that seems to be moving along that way. I've had to do some ripping out of rows, so slow isn't necessarily a bad thing. The bulk of this baby blanket is a single crochet, double crochet pattern, and it's pretty. The borders on either end are a little different, and I don't like the color I chose for the ends, but too bad, I am not starting over. As it is, Even after consulting with some experts, we couldn't figure out how to read the directions on how to crochet in the flowers -- so I am just going to have to add them on after. And if it doesn't work, then there will be no flowers! Boys don't need flowers anyway!

First blanket and hat have yet to be mailed, and that nephew arrived April 5th! Better get it to him before he grows too much!!

I have recovered from the sinus infection from hell, and have returned to PT. Thursday I tried out the Aquaciser -- an underwater treadmill! What fun. You know, every body has a different density, no matter how big or small. Some people are sinkers; others are floaters. I am a floater. Put me in 40" of water and I have to hang on to stay upright. Shannon started me off slowly, but I actually walked on the treadmill for ten minutes before stopping to rest. Then I did it again. It may have been the equivalent of walking around the block. It was .3 miles. I haven't done that in a very long time, even with the walker. When I got on dry land I could really feel the difference [egads!], and when I got home I was bushed. Next week I will do it while wearing my new water shoes. [I hate going barefoot; too many weird sensations on the bottoms of my feet!]

I had a nice Mother's Day Luncheon on May 8th. Romeo is getting along okay with the kitties, one hisses at him and doesn't play nice, another is much better and I think they will eventually be friends, the third wants nothing to do with him whatsoever; and he is doing better with his separation anxiety whenever we leave the house; No more cubes of butter eaten. Make that whenever DH leaves the house. I'm just one of the pack to him. Definitely second choice. Oh well.

Lessee, what else? Can't remember, so I guess that's it for now.

Good Night, TTYL and, you know, Be Well.

  1. Welcome back. A treadmill underwater sounds very interesting. Even more strenuous perhaps than just water walking.

  2. Books on tape. I quess I should do that. I used to read all the time but after my coma ... not so much. My eyes just aren't what they used to be.

You better get going on that baby stuff. They grow faster than you think ...

    Have a nice weekend,

  4. I'm currently on page 648 of World Without End, a little better than halfway through(!) At least with the e-book I don't get worn out turning pages. It's a fun read.

I'm glad to hear that Romeo is settling in. If it's any consolation, but whippets have decided I'm not the alpha dog in our pack either. Everywhere Scarecrow goes, he has two little red and white shadows.

  5. Hey, where do you go to do the aqua stuff? I wish I had a pool here...
Glad you are feeling better and had a good "read."

  6. Lisa, actually walking underwater is easier because of the buoyancy. But watch out when you get out of the water- gravity can be nature's bitch.

JC- lousy vision is why I like audio books. I just found that all of our local library systems have digital down-loadable books. You can save them to your laptop, or to your MP3 player or even burn them to CDs. I'm stoked.

I'm crocheting as fast as I can! I have one set ready to mail, #2 is taking longer than I expected, and I have another month for #3.

Carolina Mtns, I'm envious of your gardens and veggies coming up. I'm sure it makes for good eatin'. And your new goat kid is pretty cute, too!

Zoomdoggies- If I couldn't get it digitally, I just know I never would have attempted a 1200+ page book. Too tiring, and eyes couldn't take it. But listening and crocheting or playing Solitaire works for me. This book is a great read. Glad you're enjoying it too!

As for not being top dog, at least he doesn't try to hump my leg! LOL

Diane, the AquaCiser I use is at St. Joe's PT department in Tacoma. I guess you could try walking in a pool, as long as it had a lift. I don't know if QA Pool has a lift. It's at the top of the hill at 1st W and W Howe.
I'll leave the Googling to you because you're better at it than I am. :-)

  8. Webster - welcome back. I absolutely love books on tape. I'm driving down to Cape Cod today (2 hours each way), I think I'll put one on to while away the time.

  10. Hi. Thank you for tapping into my blog. I am going to follow back. To answer your question about why patients need an escort in the Ride for Life; ALS progresses very quickly in 90% of the cases Most patients have minimal use of their hands. Also, we are riding in our motorized wheelchairs, so we are using one hand to operate a joystick. The ride has a tight schedule and, if we need something, there has to be someone close by to get it for us, or to otherwise help us with what we need, because there is no time to leave the ride to pop into a store, get something out of our bags and even -- in some cases -- wipe our noses or apply sunblock. I hope that answers your question.
