A Lot of News
I got some news today, both good and bad.
Bad news first, okay? My dear friend was hit by a car last Tuesday morning at about 7:45. It was light out, and not raining (I'm pretty sure). The driver was an 81 year old woman. My friend is in the hospital with two broken legs, a broken rib or two, a broken clavicle and a 6" gash on her head. Her Mom called me with this news, and said that her gash was stitched up, the ribs and clavicle are expected to heal on their own, one leg had compound fracture/s and was operated on, and the other knee is waiting until the swelling goes down before they can work on it. Apparently she cannot move her arms, probably because of the upper body injuries - but who knows. Because of that, I haven't called her yet. I will talk with her Mom again tomorrow and check into that, and I will call the hospital and find out about visiting protocol, etc.
This is not a good thing. I wouldn't wish this on anybody. But her sister came down from Alaska where she lives, and I hope she can stay for while. Her other sister is a nurse, and is checking into a good rehab facility for her to move into during the interim of her recovery. I think then she will discover that her house is not as accessible as she once thought it was. I know I need to go up to see her, and soon.
The world has a way of telling you when you need to make changes in your life. This is how I look at it. When you are not acting on your intuition... well, she'll have to slow down now, won't she? It really sucks. But I'm glad that her head injury wasn't more damaging, because apparently she is thinking clearly, and communicating clearly, as she was able to give her Mom several phone numbers without looking them up. So that is a very good thing.
Now for the good news: My nephew just announced his engagement to his girlfriend; they have been dating/living together for ten years. He designed a ring and had it made for her, and it is just beautiful. They haven't set a date, but are thinking next Autumn. They want a small ceremony, and her parents want a big wedding, so many conversations will be had before the plans are set.
His sister, my niece, is expecting a baby in April! She was married last June in New York City, and had a reception for her West coast family last August.
Her other brother, another nephew, is also expecting a child - well, his girlfriend is - in May. They are not married, but who knows what will happen before next Spring?
It looks like my extended family will be increasing by two newborns, and one (perhaps two) nieces! That's good news indeed.
I guess I will need to learn to crochet a couple of receiving blankets and booties!
Good Night, TTYL, and Be Well

Hi Webster,
ReplyDeleteSad news that Judi is dead, she will be missed.
Glad her suffering and pain are over.
Even though we all knew she could die at anytime it was still a big shock to read she was gone and there would not be a post from her again.
Love,
Herrad
It is indeed the best and worse of news! I am really happy that your family is growing. =) That is always the best news of all.
