My Back Yard
My Back Yard
We've had many pets over the 25+years that we have lived in this house, and many are buried in the back yard, therefore my back yard is a
minus the Stephen King and the ghoulish nature.
Of all our pets, some I miss more than others. Worf was a favorite of mine, as was Galadriel and Purnima but I miss all of them, really. So here they are, in the order of their demise.
Gus (Ceasar Augustus) was our first cat who died. DH brought him home from a woman he met when in grad school. Her cat had a litter and she had to get rid of them so he took one. We had him put down at the vet and brought him home to be buried. He died in mid-purr. He had cerebellar hypoplasia, though he may have been misdiagnosed, as his condition worsened as he grew up. His bones can be found next to the fence that encloses our compost pile -- under the photinia trees.
Mayday was next. She was a black and white pound rescue cat. We don't know what caused it, but she just became very lethargic. At pnly three years old, she died when asleep in her favorite spot... in front of the sofa. We buried her under the lawn in front of the glider chair in the 'back 40' where she loved to snooze on a warm day. We figured she would be less likely to be dug up by a future owner if under grass rather than in a garden.
Radagast was a Chesapeak Bay Retriever who died at home, likely of old age. DH got him at the Humane Society when he was looking for a different dog that lived in a rented house at the end of our alley. The kids said they were moving and that their Dad had placed their dog with some friends who had a farm. DH figured that was a euphemism for the dog pound, so he went to look, and came home with Radagast instead. He is buried in the back yard under the lawn in front of the privet bush.
Worf was a yellow domestic short hair whom I heard mewling from across the alley as I was getting into my car to go to work. I tracked the sound down to the inside of a garbage can; iI lifted the lid and he jumped into my arms, all shivering and scared. The vet figured he was about seven or eight weeks old, so we had him neutered and got his shots and had him de-wormed, and he wormed his way into my heart.
He didn't come running one night when I called him -- DH found him a few hours later just on the other side of a short fence that separates the patio from the back yard. He was so weak he couldn't make the jump and he fell back and died. Later we figured he must have caught a rat that had eaten some rat bait we had used a few days earlier. He was buried next to Radagast.
Purnima (Persnicketty) and Nishita (Cocoa Puff) and Rajah (Raj) were abandoned in the garage across the alley. Once they were weaned their Mom wanted nothing more to do with them, so we took them in and had them spayed/neutered.
Purnima died 6/19/17 peacefully in her sleep, and Nishita died 9/17/17 after a two day struggle with her breathing and keeping her food down. [Raj is hanging in there at coming up on 14 years old.]
Purnima and Nishita are buried in front of and next to Worf.
So, that's it for now... but I'm sure there will be more to add to it.
Good night, TTYL, and Be Well,

Our yard is also a pet cemetary. Much loved, much missed pets.
ReplyDeleteI am sorry for all the losses. Its nice you live in one house to have their graves together. I havent lost an indoor pet yet but I can imagine the pain as my dog is a senior...

ReplyDeleteSorry I missed commenting . ... Catfish and Annie were cremated so we would not have leave them behind when we moved.
