Geez, it's cold outside

And it's not so very warm inside either; at least I'm not warm. This has been an ongoing issue with me for a long time, and I'm tired of it. I mean, if I could just stand up and do ten jumping jacks, I would, and that would be that, but I can't, so I layer up like I'm going on a hike -- to my dining room, no less, and still I feel chilly. So it's related to MS in some way. Either it is my lack of mobility, OR it has something to do with my sensory system (or those pesky nerves- whatever). The point I'm trying to make is that I'm cold all the damned time and I'm tired of it. The only time I am comfortable is when I am curled up in bed under my down comforter. And all that to tell you I am overjoyed that Spring is within sight. Not that it gets particularly warm in these parts in the Spring. It gets lighter, yes, but no warmer. Wht a waste of all that sunshine. (Well, there will be plenty of rain, too, I suppose. I mean this morning before dawn it actually started snowing! Some places got a couple inches and we got maybe one. It was pretty until the sun came out.) But seriously?? I guess I will have to wait for Summer for the heat. Oh well.

My brother's heart by-pass was a success, so far at least. He was in the hospital a total of seven days, and is now home taking care of himself. He has a room mate who is "keeping track of all the pills" he has to take. Fortunately, most of those he will be weaned from, and left with only two or three that he will have to take forever. He claims he will quit smoking, and I hope he does. He has been a life-long smoker. It won't be easy. He hasn't even mentioned exercise, or losing weight, but time will tell. For now he is all right.

Apparently, my other brother, who has Type II diabetes, needs to have an operation on his knee. I need to call and ask him about this, but haven't yet, because my tolerance for his (and his wife's) perennial political conversation drives me nuts. [Can you say "Conspiracy Theory?"] I've been hearing these stories for too many years. But his knee? It's bad. And he has peripheral neuropathy. And he doesn't maintain his proper diet, and can't possibly be managing to keep his insulin on an even keel. I'll keep you posted.

So, Good Night, TTYL, and Be Well,

  1. so good to hear that bypass went well... amazing how quickly people recover from such major surgery these days!

other brother... eek... diabetes is horrid if not kept under control... well, it's horrid either way but you know what i mean...

i'm cold too... but it's getting better.... our summer is pretty much cranking up... we are in the 80's during the afternoon now, which only means that in a month or so we'll in the 90's nearing 100's.... ugh... texas... fun stuff

here's hoping you get warmed up and everyone gets better in your world!

  2. So many medical problems in the family. All at once. Sigh.
For a while my MS left me with the feeling that my feet were cold and wet. So much so that I would reach down and feel them to make sure I hadn't trodden in a puddle. Nope, just the disease. These days I am always hot. Pretty much regardless of the weather.
I hope you find some warmth soon.

  3. It's difficult when our siblings are sick, but even more so when they could take better care of themselves! Sorry you have to go through this.
    Peace,

  5. Well how come illness's come in groups? Good that you brother's by-pass went well and hope your other brother decides to take better care.

Most of this season I have been cold. I will take the cooler weather over the hot any day. Now I am not talking sub freezing temps here. But this year the cold has really bothered me. I hope we have a few weeks of spring like temps. Like the porridge - not to hot - not to cold.

  6. From Ginny F.: Sorry about your feeling cold. I think I would rather be too cold than too hot....you can snuggle into a down comforter ball, as you said, and relieve the cold...but excess heat, yuck! Maybe it's time to cave in to the TV ads and get a Snuggie for yourself.

Maybe you can communicate with the "politically active" brother and his wife by e-mail, thereby eliminating the uncomfortable phone calls.

  7. Great news on the heart surgery. Phew.

Sorry you're cold all the time. I'm usually bundled up around the house too. I keep a heating pad near by to help me warm up a bit.

I'll hold good thoughts for your brother with the possible knee surgery.

Hang in there, Spring is just around the corner.

  9. I am having the same problem you are having - being cold all the time (to the point of it being almost a disability in of itself) and the Dr. is running lab tests - I will let you know if anything is found. Other than "it's MS". Have you had your thyroid checked? I am hypo - but there can be other causes as well.

Glad your brother's surgery went well. Ugh, diabetes. The "D" word. I am hoping mine comes back negative. It better.

About the wife - you could adopt the stance of my great-grandmother. She said "I refuse to talk about politics, it's rude" and to her dying day no one knew her political opinion. It drove my mother crazy! LOL. And if she brings it up, change the subject. Immediately. (have a long list in your head)
