That Sheba . . .

Image
Every family has its stories, and mine is no different, but there is one that I am asked by my nephew to repeat at our family gatherings so often that I thought I would share it with you here. First I have to set the stage. This was during the Spring/Summer of the "flight from Fresno" in the early 1980's, when my brother lost his business and had to  move back home for awhile until he got his footing. So he and my sister-in-law, and their two dogs (Candy, a Bull-Mastiff, and Ming, a Maltese) moved in. I had moved back home the year  before, and then I was diagnosed with MS. Once that happened my dad had another bedroom/bathroom built onto the first floor of the house, just off the living room to make the house wheelchair accessible for me. This way there was an extra room upstairs which became our guest-room; still, my SIL often just slept on the sofa downstairs. My Dad was always an early riser, as was my SIL. The rest of us are night owls and usually slept in, b...

What I've Read (so far) This Year

Image
I overlapped The Red Notebook from the library with Heat (an 87th precinct mystery) on my Kindle. I am just several pages away from finishing Britt-Marie was Here and am about to start Fredrick Backman's previous book My Grandmother Asked Me to  Tell You She's Sorry .  On hold at the library for A Man Called Ove, so I guess I'm reading his books inn reverse order. Backman is another writer from Sweden who has written some very popular books, but they are very different from The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (millennium  series)  by Stieg Larsson. So some happy reading for me to balance out my computer time and TV-on-the -computer time. Good Night, TTYL, and Be Well,

A Most Delightful Book

Image
My latest book of 2017 was The Red Notebook by Antoine Laurant. It is about a middle aged widow who is a small bookstore owner who happened upon a woman's handbag on a rubbish pile on a Paris sidewalk. Not wanting it to get picked up by the trash collectors, he brought it home... and thus began his quest to find it's rightful  owner. Good Night, TTYL,and Be Well,

Truth Be Told ... Not for the Timid ... or TMI ---Take Your Pick

I  would like to start off the new year by vowing to telling the truth. I mean, would I lie to you?  I  don't think so. But a lie by omission is still a lie, right? Listen up MS organizations - that was meant for you. As limited as my life is, being bedridden and very nearly paraplegic,  it really isn't that bad. I'm generally content, and I am not the one who has to clean up my messes;  to wit, when I shit in my diaper, I don't have to wipe my own ass. No, that job goes to my DH or my caregiver. Today was shower day, and because of all the antibiotics I've been on, my bowel regimen is all messed up (so to speak); instead of sitting in the tub, I decided to use the shower chair, and it was a good thing I did, too, because once I was done with the shower, and was back in the sling, I started to poop... in the tub, well, if I was taking a bath instead of a shower there would be no getting clean without a follow-up shower ... which would, in a Januar...

How I Entered the New Year

Image
I was a very sick girl. I had the tri-fecta of infections; a Bladder infection, Bacterial Vaginitis, and  a bad case of Cellulitis. I went to St Joseph Medical Center on December 27. I was given  picc line through which I received four different antibiotics which killed off the various  germs that were the cause of my ilIs. I came home on January 3. On New Year's Eve DH and I watched New Year's at the Needle on  TV. I am doing well, and am getting better as I type and you read. Happy New Year to all. Great Reads -- (so what did I do?)

Image
As i mentioned in the post WIDAD  - I READ . .  .  these books were so delightful that I decided to buy them. I still had my Amazon Prime promo (which I have since cancelled) and got them for a good price. Ajax Penumbra 1969  --  I got this for $2.99 Mr. Penumbta's 24-hour Bookstore  --  in paperback for .01 + $3. 99 s&h (private seller) So, for a  grand total of $6.99 , I  got two perfectly good books that I do  want to read again  one day. This,  when I am cleaning out my bookshelves to donate to the library, or sell at a yard sale. Go figure. EXIT (Pursued by a bear) The Winter's Tale  Act 3, Sc. iii

My Latest Project

Here is my latest picture in my Arabic Floral Patterns coloring book. It was done with a combination of pencils and two different types of pens. If you look closely, the date I finished it is on the bottom right. Catch up with you later. EXIT (Pursued by a bear) The Winter's Tale  Act 3, Sc. iii

W I D A D - I read and work crosswords (7)

Image
I read. On my Kindle: This was the last of a trilogy  Stay Dead, Play Dead, and Pretty Dead by Anne Frasier. Murder mysteries. I forget what Fairwood was about, but I know that I enjoyed it (lol).  I work  the daily crossword , but not the New York Times puzzle. and as you see here, I have amassed quite the collection I got this book through interlibrary loan. It was recommended by Nancy Pearl on NPR -- Ajax Penumbra 1969. At just 87 pages, it tells a lovely story... part mystery, part quest, and pure delight. This was actually published a year earlier, to wide acclaim. This is Robin Sloan's debut bestselling novel,  Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore. I read the New Yorker, and the Rolling Stone magazines. I am woefully behind, alas. And the daily paper, which I will cancel before month's end.                          ...

W I D A D - around the block (6)

Image
This was from my last walk around the block I go out my back door and past the small pond   and past the best basil I have had the luck to grow  then up the ramp that DH made that goes to the back gate I  go past a house with a great wrap-around porch. It's unfortunate that I have never seen the people who live there sit out and enjoy a dinner alfresco upon it. Then I pass the far end of my alley The next corner has no curb cut I pass another beautiful tree Remember when it was common to have milk delivered?                                                                     ...

W I D A D - color woth pens (5)

Image
Well, Some of the time I color in these: This was my first           And this is my current, along with this one. These two are waiting... because you can only do so many flowers... So let's see a few...                                                 I like this one. This was supposed to be a study in greens, but I decided to add a pop of a few colors to stand out.                                                And this one was all circles.  ...
