About time, don't you think?

Hey all, I thought it was time to check in just so you all didn't think I have rolled over and died or something. No, I'm still around, I just don't feel like doing much of anything. I have been cold all year, and Summer is no exception. Although the temps look good on the weather report, they sure don't feel like it's Summer hot to me. And I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing, given my lack of ability to handle the heat. I did sit outside on the patio for awhile today, and the sun felt so good, but I didn't want to push my luck and stay in it too long. I came in before I wilted, and before it reached the  predicted 78 degrees. (There is NO WAY it did that though, I don't care what they say.)

Tomorrow I get to get up at O:butt thirty so I can get on the road to drive to Seattle to visit Diane (of A Stellarlife). I was double checking directions on Google maps, and gee whiz, Seattle has changed since I lived there. There is lots of road construction happening, on roads that I am used to taking, so I had to check to be sure of my route. All seems to be well, so I will go my usual way up I-5, over on WA 518, then North on WA 509 then onto the WA 99. Google suggested I stay on I-5 until I get into Seattle and then cut over to 99 just South of the Stadiums, but I figure that my way will still work as well as it always has. If I am wrong I will no doubt be late.

So, I guess it's catch-up time. I saw my PCP Ashley on the 9th, and she didn't seem to have any notion of how to go about doing a mobility assessment, even though she knew that was my specific reason for the visit. So I gave her the # for Diane, my personal rep at Wheelchair Professionals. She told me that when she got the information from Diane, she would call me and we would finish on the phone. Her nurse called me on the 23rd and left a message that they got the paperwork, but Ashley said that "it would be awhile...". Awhile for what, I wonder. Then Diane from WP calls me on the 25th to tell me she sent Ashley the information on the 18th, but hasn't heard back from her. I told her to pester Ashley, because once Diane gets the paperwork she can refer me to a provider in my area. So, it's not looking like I will be getting a chair in time for Summer. I guess I will just have to hope it arrives before my next relapse.

My  brother who lives in Japan has come (and gone) for his Summer Vacation. I did not make it up to Anacortes for the BBQ; it just seemed like a long way to drive for just a few hours; and most of the cousins from my generation weren't going to be there. So, I blew it off. Also, his daughter gave me a call two nights before he left, so I could talk to him, but I didn't pick up. I figured the LEAST he could do was to call me himself, but, no. So now he's back in Japan and probably all jet-lagged and getting ready to start up his ESL classes again on Monday.

One of my Sorority sisters had a back yard lunch for those of use who weren't working or sick. It was very nice, informal, set in her lovely yard with a nice, small pond, and a neighborhood cat who crashed the scene for back scratches and scraps. Unfortunately, the weather didn't quite warm up to the predicted 72; I don't think it got over 68, but it was overcast and a little humid so it was comfortable, even for me.

My car is making noises, which doesn't bode well as it is only 24 years old (!). If it's anything much more involved that replacing a water pump, we'll have to junk it. That will leave me with the Plymouth Laser, which looks cool, but sits awfully close to the ground. I haven't tried sitting in it with the big ROHO cushion I have on the seat, but with the cushion and the hand controls it's gonna be iffy that it will work for me. (Also, back to nothing electric - yuck - manual windows, manual seat adjustments, etc. Again, yuck.) Better gas mileage though, to make up for higher insurance costs. Also, needs a battery and to be licensed. At least we have a back-up.

DH made a lemon cake with Muffie's recipe except he used white whole wheat flour, and his own white frosting, and it turned out pretty good. I  got a Starbuck's e-card for my birthday, and I CAN'T for the life of me get onto my account to load it. I am so frustrated with their website... so I have to figure that out before I can spend it. Wish me luck.

Talk at you later,

    1. Karen, you should come for a Pacific NW visit one day. Bring sweaters. Lots of things to do in the area on a vacation. I had a safe and pleasant trip to Seattle on Friday.

  2. Happy Belated Birthday!! Glad the cake turned out all right -- I always worry when I give recipes!

You've really had your share of problems with this wheelchair issue -- hope it gets resolved soon. Lucky you!! Our heat has been ungodly and I'd welcome a few 70 or 60 degree days!

Say hi to Diane for me -- tale pix!!!

    Peace,
    Muff

    1. TY for the B-day wishes. It has been ungodly hot over so much of the nation, I almost feel guilty about my complaints about the cool weather here. It's been inching into the 70s, so I'd better be careful what I wish for. I was on the freeway when you posted your comment, so I'm sorry, didn't relay it.

The cake was made with white whole wheat flour, not cake flour, so was a bit dense. He put a heavy glaze/runny sweet frosting on it; the counterpoint was quite good, actually.

Hope you have a safe journey and that you stay warm enough but not TOO warm.

  5. I have started to comment here several times now, and, as with many blogs, I toss aside my laptop to swing into my chair and rush to the loo, upon return, forgetting what I was doing or too tired to finish. 1. You made it on PERFECT time! 2. You forgot to tell me "Hi" from Muffie. BUTT, after hearing how you dealt so smoothly with our "I'm a STAR!" chef, I forgive you anything! Oh, how I wish I had been there. BRAVO! I will sen pix when I can find them in my computer where all but one is hiding...THANK YOU for the wonderful visit.

    1. I E-mailed G. re: the pic, so hopefully she'll say I can post it.

If you had been there I would not have dealt with the chef, knowing how soundly he was chided by you the night before. Wouldn't want to gang up on him too much, after all, he does Feed You.

  6. I would be freezing at those temps:) too...It is good to get out and go but the roads do change a lot. The chair waiting is so normal, sadly. Hope it works out

    1. Kim, I just want your set-up, really. Small car, good mileage, and wheels to go. Perfection... until it snows, right? OR if it's 106F. There's NO going out in THAT kind of heat.
